Bass.seeker Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 Hi yall I just signed up to bass resource thanks to the fishing videos that Glenn May put on youtube. I just wanted to know when you would fish a fluke would you throw it everywhere or just some places would you trig it or have it weightless? Anything helps Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 26, 2013 Super User Posted January 26, 2013 Welcome aboard! Here are a couple of suggestions: 1. Look around the site a little bit to get a feel for where things are. 2. Spend some time in "Fishing Articles" at the top of the page. 3. Scan through the first 20 pages of this section, I think we have 4 or 5 threads going right now on flukes. Now a short answer to your original question: Fish a fluke weightless and weedless in and around vegetation. I like to picture in my mind a minnow feeding. Twitch the fluke without moving it forward and you will see exactly what I mean. Quote
Bass.seeker Posted January 26, 2013 Author Posted January 26, 2013 thanks for the answers and the info Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 I like to fish fluke baits weightless and in shallower water. Around weeds, lilys, bruch, skipping docks etc.Couple twitches and a pause to let the bait slowly sink I like a 4/0 twistlock hook Also works great worked faster near the top for active bass or bass chasing shad. Smaller flukes work great on a drop shot or Carolina rig. Some people use a weight or weighted swimbait hook but I feel there are better baits for that. If I want a little faster sink, I will have them made with a Senko type salted formula. Quote
gallowaypt Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 Weightless and sometimes with a weighted swim bait hook over the top and through grass is where I have the most luck. Either let sink to the bottom and give slight raises of the rod, or swim with different cadence twitches. They seem to hit in between twitches on the fall a lot. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 28, 2013 Super User Posted January 28, 2013 A fluke is a dynamite bait, catches about everything. I use 4/0 standard worm hook t-rigged in shallow or weedy conditions and fish almost like a topwater bait, open water I like putting them on a light lead head. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted January 28, 2013 Super User Posted January 28, 2013 I like to fish them in the shallows and over the tops of weeds. I always fish them weightless. For some reason I don't like the action when they have a weight on them. Quote
Super User Teal Posted January 28, 2013 Super User Posted January 28, 2013 The only time I fish them with a weighted swimbait hook is if the water has come up several feet and i want to get it down a little bit and tick the top of the grass. A great lure and a very productive one once you get the hang of it. Quote
