Super User rockchalk06 Posted January 25, 2013 Super User Posted January 25, 2013 My old scale is junk and looking for a new one. I would prefer digital if possible. Reviews online are all mixed. Just curious to see what most around here recommend. Thanks Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted January 25, 2013 Super User Posted January 25, 2013 I have been using the Berkley digital scales that go to 50lb. Mainly for when catching catfish. However, I just recently ordered the Berkley BIg Game lip grip with digital scale. Can't wait to try it out. Quote

BenBassmaster Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Field and stream makes a good one I heard. Supposed to be pretty accurate. Quote
war-eagle Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 I too use the Berkley 50 lb digital. I check it with weight plates, and it has Always been accurate. It runs about 25.00 Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted January 25, 2013 Super User Posted January 25, 2013 Is this the same one they use on major league fishing? Yes, which actually is one of the reasons I decided to try one. Quote
Rangerphil Posted January 25, 2013 Posted January 25, 2013 Been thinking of getting one also because if they use it it must be pretty accurate. Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted January 25, 2013 Super User Posted January 25, 2013 I was thinking of picking up one of those from MLF as well. I use the grips quite a bit (lipping with trebles not as appealing after going past the barb and heading to ER), so please give us an update if you end up picking them up. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 26, 2013 Super User Posted January 26, 2013 I use the $20 handheld Berkley 50lber. It is pretty accurate. It consistantly weighs fish exactly the same as my $300+ Equalizer scale that I use in the tournaments I run. If it does differ from the tournament scale, it 99% of the time weighs them a tad lighter so I am always pleasntly surprised at the weigh-in. The fish in my avatar weighed 6-10 on the hand-held in the boat, and 6.68 (6-10) on the tournament scale..........good enough for me. Quote
SudburyBasser Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 I use the Berkley 50lb as well and never had a problem with it though after watching MLF I'm tempted to try the lip gripper they use. Quote
soccplayer07 Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 the reviews that I have seen on the lip gripper aren't that great...anyone have one? Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted January 26, 2013 Author Super User Posted January 26, 2013 That's for all the replies. Seems the Berkley is alright. I don't need a tourney accurate one just one that I can weigh decent fish to know when my PB is broken. Thanks again Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted January 26, 2013 Super User Posted January 26, 2013 I have two Rapala mini-digitals. Both have been scary accurate in pull-tests against known weights. Here are a couple threads where I posted my results: Rapala Digital Mini-Scale - Quick Test Report Digital Scale Test 1 Quote

Super User flyfisher Posted January 27, 2013 Super User Posted January 27, 2013 I had a rapala scale and it was far from accurate. It then decided to make a home at the bottom of the lake....I am going to get a boga grip to be able to help land the toothy critters and fish with trebles all over the place and give me an accurate weight at the same time. Being I fish in a kayak I try and keep things simple and since I have a set of lip grippers but no scale so without adding anything else to my yak I can kill two birds with one stone. Quote
