Direct Tv Or Dish?

I know this isn't a proper forum but don't really know where to turn. They both get pretty shabby treatment on ripoffreports.com but does anybody know if one's better than the other?

Really.......they both suck. I had Direct TV for a few years, needed to add a couple receivers and they wanted to charge me like $600 to do so. SO, I get Dish, all goes well for about 4 years and then I moved and wanted to add DVR, once again, they wanted to charge me like $400. Got Direct TV and had terrible recepetion and had 3 receivers go bad in 2 years. I now use Dish and haven't had a problem in the last 2+ years, but I am about to build a new house so I am sure problems will arise when I wan to add more DVR's.

both are better than cable I used to have Direct and favor them due to their competncy with service. Dish has some interesting packages tho, but right now it is niether, have an HD antena for my downstairs tv with a bluray that is wifi ready. Upstairs I have a tv hooked to my cpu. You can stream MTV, Discovery etc. Netflix and the antena cover the rest. pay $50 for the internet and wireless modem. Screw those contracts and $100 plus bills for cable or satalite

I have dish. Their customer service has been spectacular. I also have 2 boxes (one that powers two TVs independently) all with DVR and our bill is around 100.00. That is with HD, and I believe the Americas top 200 plan. I have enjoyed them thourougly. We haven't lost signal and customer service worked with us a few months ago when we were having financial problems.

I have had Dish for going on 4 years now and haven't had any real problems. I know when I move there will supposedly be an upgrade to the Hopper but we shall see.

 

I will never go back to cable(Charter Communications) as I had numerous problems and their customer service was the absolute worst.

 

The main thing with all three(cable, Dish, and Direct) Is to call them from time to time and ask about any promotions. My bill for Dish Is around $80.00 and about every three months I call and If nothing else talk to them about upgrades and or promotions.

 

Lastly, the cable folks never seemed to care whether I was a customer or not and my experience with Dish Is 180 degrees In the opposite direction. The competition Is at an all-time high between service providers and with a little work and diligence you can almost get anything you want at a reduced price. The key Is persistence.

Been using Direct TV for 20 some years with a hiccup here and there but nothing major to complain about.

I have had directvfor at least 5 years now and i have no complaints.  i think the big thing for me when making my decision was the availability of the NFL ticket and other sports packages.  To me, directv wins hand down in that battle so that is who i go with.

 

I also bought all my receivers so i don't have a lease fee and i am not sure why people are saying they would be charged $600 for a DVR receiver or set up unless that was to run a new line or something.  Luckily that is something i have always done myself so no added cost to me.

On a side note with a fishinf twist, Dish carries WFN (World Fishing Network) while Direct does not...

i prefer DirecTV myself. They have way more channels and a better HD package with more HD Channels. It dont know where yall are getting 600 bucks to add a box or two, unless theres a max limit to the number of boxes one satellite dish can have, we currently have 5 boxes on our satellite. if we want to add a box its like 20-30 bucks for the box and theres like a 6 dollar or so charge a month for the service to that box. my bill seems high, but its all because of stuff i added like Outdoors Channel, HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, and Starz. Sometimes the service goes out during storms blocking the signal but its usually not for long and sometimes just the higher numbered channels. ive seen it not go out once during a 3-4 foot snow storm a few years ago, but if it does go out in snow i just sweep the dish off with a broom. since we moved, i had to duct tape a broom to a broom and stand on a chair to reach the dish on the roof from the back deck, but it worked lol.

 

I used the dish networks at my grandparents house before and it just wasnt appealing to me at all...

I've been very happy with Directv.  They suck less than Dish Network.

We had Dish Network for about a dozen years, but due to the need to reduce our bills a couple years ago (at least temporarily) we switched to DirecTV for the introductory rate.  Both are adequate for our needs.  Lose signal briefly a couple times a year when large storms are brewing to the southwest.  Never a big deal.

I have no experience with Dish Network but have been with Direct for about 12 years. Cable before that. Direct has been much better than cable and other than losing service a couple of times a year during storms I have no complaints. Their customer service is very good but so is their website, if you don't want to talk to a rep...........................Al

I'm with redlinerobert. DirectTV sucks less. The most irritating thing about them is that they can just change the channel lineup willy nilly anytime they want. I signed up with certain channels and then one day they just up and delete one that I like and replace it (sometimes) with a stupid infomercial channel.

I want my Outdoor channel back! I shouldn't have to pay another five bucks for a channel that was there when I signed up!

Went through the same crap with Direct TV when I lived in AL. It would go out every single time it rained. Every. Single. Time.

 

Had problems with their equipment, and they wanted to charge me $90 to send a technician out to look at it.

 

I said: "No thanks, I'll just call the cable company instead. They'd be glad to set me up with service, and it won't cost me $90."

 

Direct TV rep: "Ok, we'll waive the service charge and have a techician out to your house tomorrow."

 

Next thing I know, there's a $90 service charge on my bill that takes months to get straightened out...just in time to have another equipment problem, and we get to start the process all over again.

 

When we bought this house in GA, it had a dish hanging off the west wall. I took it down, threw it in the trash can, and had Comcast run new lines. I have my phone, cable. and internet all bundled together and have no complaints at all. It may not be cheap, but it's crystal clear in bad weather.

 

It'll be a cold day in Hades before I give a single penny of my money to Direct TV.
