Lew's Speed Spool

Lew's Tournament MG Speed Spool

Which of these would you recommend?

I am finding the first reel for about $80 second reel for about $100 and the third reel for about $130

Mg has a graphite frame and the other 2 are aluminum frames. The speed spool and tournament mg are essentially the same but the tournament mg has a bigger spool and longer handle. Plus more drag. I owned a regular speed spool and sold it because it was noisy. I currently own a tournament mg in the LH 5:4:1 model and it's ok but it'll be replaced with the BB1L in the 5:1:1. It was released yet so I had to settle on the Mg for a cranking reel. I have a couple of the tournament models and I also own one of the new BB1Z models plus a couple tournament Pros. Both of them I love especially the Tournament Pros. You can get the BB1 models on eBay for $129 shipped. The tournament for about $125 and the TP for $155. The reels you mentioned are on there also for less then what you've said. Personally the tournament 'not the mg' is the lowest model I'd purchase and for $125 it's well worth it but I'd spend the extra $30 every time for the Pro model.

You can get a Tourney Pro online for around $150 if you look around. My wife gave me one for Christmas and I'm impressed with it so far (although I haven't had the chance to use it that much yet). Judging by the weight, smoothness, overall build quality, fit + finish, and design....it's an absolute winner. I have a feeling that I'll be saying it's my favorite reel in the near future.

I have 2 of the Laser MG reels (8 bearing not 6), they are great for my cranking reels.  I have the Speed Spool also on one of my flipping sticks and it's great as well.  As far as I can tell with my limited experience, you can't go wrong with a Lews reel.

laser mg is graphite with centrifugal brakes

speed spool is aluminum with mag brakes....star drag clicks

tournament mg is fancier version of the speed spool, clicking tension and star drag (metal), magnetic brakes, bigger spool and longer handle

Definitely shop around you can find good deals on them if you search.  I have a Lews Speed Spool and a Tournament Pro, and for the money they are the best reels you can get.

http://www.lews.com/reels.htm this link is to Lew's website to all Lews reels

In short as you get into the upper level reels the weight of the reels gets lighter, the drag gets stronger, features such as magnetic and centrifugal brakes (in tournament pro), bearing are added, and fancy features like clicking drag star and clicking brakes are added  all of this depends on the level of reel you are looking for. Most of the features can be found on the Lews Tournament, and if you look especially online it should be fairly reasonable my Lews Tournament Pro was $165 (new in box) if I remember correctly from an online retailer.

I would recomend a tournament or tournament pro, they both have the mag and centrifugal braking, the tournament mg is mag only. I think for the money the best buy is the Tournament Pro, lightest of the three, dual braking and you get the carbon handle, and my favorite, same as  the Team, but lighter with a graphite side plate instead of aluminum!!
