Super User 00 mod Posted January 23, 2013 Super User Posted January 23, 2013 Went to Pickwick on Sunday and filmed my trip for the first time using my GoPro. First ever attempt at making a video as well. Check it out! Jeff 3 Quote
Super User Shane J Posted January 23, 2013 Super User Posted January 23, 2013 Cool, man! Glad you got it figured out. Gonna be a lot of fun filming this year. Can't wait to see more! I love this stuff! Nice job. Quote
Hanover_Yakker Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Nice job - I'll give you a GoPro setting that may help you remove some of the frame jump/jitters and that is change your video mode to 720p/30fps which I believe is r4 on the display. It does two things - allows you to have a smoother transition during your video captures, and it increases the amount of recording time you have to 2.5 hours. Other than that man it was a good first video. Now you're "hooked"! Oh yeah, almost forgot. If you can, burn the finished product to a RW/DVD or at least to an external HD. The videos take up massive amounts of space if you store them on the internal HD of your computer. 1 Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted January 23, 2013 Super User Posted January 23, 2013 Nice Jeff! By the way, what GoPro did you get? Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted January 23, 2013 Author Super User Posted January 23, 2013 Thanks guys. This is still a huge learning process for me. I got the Hero2 on clearance for $199. I will head the advice of everyone, and continue to tinker with it. Need to get some music on my computer so I don;t have to use one of the 3 stock songs. LOL. I jumped in head first. I have 2 32gb cards and 3 batteries so I can film a lot when on the water. Slow day that day, with only 2 fish, but if I were on em, it would have run dead the first day. Only had 1 battery for first trip! Jeff 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 23, 2013 Super User Posted January 23, 2013 Very Cool Jeff ~ There's no stopping you now . . . . A-Jay Quote
jhoffman Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 I know this isnt a go pro. I want to show you guys who might be thinking go pro what the kodak playsport does. Video done in 720p, 60fps... pics are from trail cameras. Planning on doing my entire fishing season this year with this cam. I have so much hunting video on it right now that I need to pull down, I just dont have the time. I bought this camera refurbished from kodak for $59, its the zx3 version which is said to be slightly better but is getting hard to find. http://vimeo.com/44202774 Quote
Super User Nitrofreak Posted January 23, 2013 Super User Posted January 23, 2013 Wow 00 !!! Very nice job indeed !!! Quote
quanjig Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Sweet! I especially like the late '70's porn groove! Seriously, I need to get one of those, looks like a lot of fun to make your own vids like that! 2 Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted January 23, 2013 Author Super User Posted January 23, 2013 I am looking for constructive criticism here. I understand it is a learning curve, and I like my video, but in no way am I completely satisfied. I have a long way to go, before a I get to the level I want to be. So far here is what I have gotten: - Too much bs, not enough fishing ( it was a slow day, only 2 bass were landed, so hopefully the next videos will have more catches) - Too choppy between frames. - Get better music. LOL - Get videos onto external storage, so it doesn't slow down my computer - Have arrows pointing to the things I am talking about ( dock walk)-- I don't know how to do this yet, but will learn - Get closer to the subject, so it doesn't look so far away, and maybe underwater will work. (Pickwick is normally a lot clearer, so that should help with next video) - Use the skeleton case when not shooting underwater, so we can talk and be heard, not just have music Jeff Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted January 23, 2013 Super User Posted January 23, 2013 Looks good Jeff. I'm glad to see your are gaining experience for when a really big bite comes along. 2 Quote
Rangerphil Posted January 23, 2013 Posted January 23, 2013 Nice job would love to start filming some myself! Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 23, 2013 Super User Posted January 23, 2013 I think you're on the right track - Other than technical advice - you should make them the way you like to see them. I'll tell you that in many circumstances, I think No Music is OK. Some of the silly things we say or the strange noises we make are too classic to miss. All that helps capture the actual Raw feeling of the moment. A-Jay 1 Quote

Super User Nitrofreak Posted January 23, 2013 Super User Posted January 23, 2013 Don't worry so much about everything !!! All of this stuff will come in due time, your first video was pretty good I really must say !! When you pick you music, pick something that goes with the theme, like the Roadtrip in Alabama video and the one from Texas, not that there was anything wrong with the music you had chosen, you stated you were just limited to your choices. It would have been nice to have a little commontary in there instead of titles. I look forward to seeing more of what you can do in the very near future...I think we may have woken a sleeping giant lol !!! As said before, congrats and have fun with it, your doing great 00 !! Super User roadwarrior Posted January 23, 2013 Super User Posted January 23, 2013 Too cool! I think you did a great job, just need a few more fish. Maybe this summer when it warms up a little we can invite Kate Upton to ride along. I think that would improve the video quite a lot. 1 Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted January 23, 2013 Author Super User Posted January 23, 2013 - Add Kate Upton to the videos! Noted!!!! Jeff 1 Quote

Super User Dwight Hottle Posted January 23, 2013 Super User Posted January 23, 2013 How did you know my plans? Jeff A little blue birdie told me, a jay. I'll bet there will be some monster greenies before we get any big brownies. 1 Quote

Hanover_Yakker Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 One last note on GoPros and sound recordings, the mic is very sensitive. That being the case, the waterproof housing actually mutes the mic and makes your commentary muffled. The non-waterproof housing cures part of that but then you are exposing your GP to the elements like rain or other water damage from fish, co-anglers, etc. and you are more succeptable to increased ambient noises you cannot control like wind, things in the boat banging or anglers shuffling about. You'll notice that none of my videos have any ambient noise or commentary, simply because ambient noises are everywhere for me when I fish out of a kayak. Not to mention that the GP is literally only inches from the water, so even the slightest wave chop or movement is amplified. Keep playing around with it, and it will improve each time. If you watch the first of my videos from early in 2012 to the last one I did back in early December - the difference in quality and production is leaps and bounds ahead. Keep at it!!! Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted January 24, 2013 Author Super User Posted January 24, 2013 So what is the secret? I have both waterproof housing/ and skeleton backdoor, as well as skeleton housing. How do I eliminate the ambiant/ other noises I dont want? Jeff Quote
