bassguytom Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 I'm throwing blade baits here in the cold in PA. I am throwing gold when cloudy and silver when sunny. Do you guys have any preference on this? I seem to be doing ok with this rule. Any info. Would be great. Thanks, Tom Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted January 21, 2013 Super User Posted January 21, 2013 That's the basic rule I follow for everything ... jerkbaits, lipless crankbaits, spoons etc. Quote
Super User Sam Posted January 21, 2013 Super User Posted January 21, 2013 Clear skies - blue back Cloudy skies - black back Keep up the good work! Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted January 21, 2013 Super User Posted January 21, 2013 I use both no matter what the conditions are. I let the fish indicate a preference. This one preferred gold, the one before and after preferred silver. 2 Quote

Super User Crestliner2008 Posted January 21, 2013 Super User Posted January 21, 2013 When using blade baits, it's more of the presentation than it is color. If they are going to hit a blade, it really isn't going to matter what the color is. This is especially true in cold water. I carry both gold & silver. Have never seen one perform better over the other. Great baits in cold water! Especially on smallies. Quote

Super User Nitrofreak Posted January 21, 2013 Super User Posted January 21, 2013 I too do not put much emphisis on blade color, it's always the technique that I am more in tune with, the color of the skirt and size and shape of the blade or blades is more important than the blade color. Quote

Bobby Uhrig Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Blade baites as in spinner baites -or silver buddy type?? Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted January 21, 2013 Super User Posted January 21, 2013 Blade baites as in spinner baites -or silver buddy type?? Silver Buddy type The bass pictured was caught with a model sort of like the Cicada (don't remember the brand). It has a slower fall rate and more vibration than the Silver Buddy since it is made with a willow leaf spinnerbait blade. I was fishing at a shallow lake so I wanted a slower fall rate. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted January 21, 2013 Super User Posted January 21, 2013 Blade baites as in spinner baites -or silver buddy type?? I'm sure he is talking silver buddy type. Quote
bassguytom Posted January 21, 2013 Author Posted January 21, 2013 Thanks guys the silver buddy type but I'm using BPS sonar blades better acton. I catch a bunch on fish on these in the winter when they won't hit anything else. There are all sorts of colors but I only go with sliver or gold. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted January 21, 2013 Super User Posted January 21, 2013 Love gold plated BfishN tackle blades. I only use them for walleye though but will get the occasional smallmouth on them on shallow sand and rock. Quote
