PondBoss Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 So I saw the commercial with Mike Iconelli and the whole thing about bass love the new "GULP" plastic worms. On the package it clearly states "OUT FISHES LIVE BAIT" What a sham, maybe it was just me or perhaps I got a bad batch of them, but man oh man do these things suck! I can't complain about getting bites, I got tons of them. So perhaps the fish are attracted to them better. But the bait it self is terrible. The firmness is way to hard and it was impossible for me to set the hook. Has anyone else had these problems with this particular type of bait? I'm seriously thinking about complaining to Berkley I mean seriously what a waste of $5 on a pack of worms you can't even use. Quote
FL_fisher Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 you probably had bluegill hitting you bait, but I have never used gulp. Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Welcome to the forums... Send me all those junk baits. I'll take 'em off your hands, especially if you have the 6" nightcrawlers Quote
reelon Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Well, I have used glup. Here are the results I've had: When bass fishing, I have been sunk! All the time. When I have used it for blue gill I have had some success, as of right know this bait is in a dark part of my tackle box. Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 as of right know this bait is in a dark part of my tackle box. Send 'em over! I'll make sure they see the light! 8-) Quote
sal669 Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 Well, I wouldn't mind if you would send some ove, too. In my neck of the woods, the guys are killing the walleyes jigging gulp grubs ( or curly tail minows;whatever thy call them), trolling gulp worms when it warms up a bit .Many of them don't buy live bait any more. MATT 5.0, you trolling too ??? *** of BASS fishing, I cought more catfish than basson it. The scent is so strong that it draws the cats in the area. Now ,about the stiffness of the worms, you got a dried out package, or you didn't closed it properly. Because a fresh batch has the consisthency of other plastics( maybe a bit more rubbery). If it dries on the hook you gonna have a hard time taking it off, not talking about setting the hook. It becomes JERKY.IT HAS TO BE ALWAYS WET !!! iFYOU ARE USING ANNOTHER ROD FOR A WHILE TAKE THE WORM OFF THE HOOK, PUT IT BACK IN THE BAG AND MAKE SURE YOU SEAL THE BAG. Or just let it hang overboard, in the water. I'll give it another try this year. Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 MATT 5.0, you trolling too ??? Nope, Texas rigged, weightless. Throwin' 'em deep into grass and in the pockets of Hydrilla. Quote
Guest avid Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 I've used gulp worms under a bobber for bluegill. they work. the afternoon I did this I had some live crawlers. Trust me the real ones work better. Quote
PondBoss Posted March 15, 2007 Author Posted March 15, 2007 I was pretty sure there was no way you could out fish the real deal. These Gulp plastic worms are just bunk in my book. They weren't dried out it was a brand new package with all that smelly fish goo still in the pouch. So that idea is out the window. I just think Berkley dropped the ball with this one. Maybe I'll cut them all in half and use them with beetle spins or something for the wife. Thanks guys Quote

Unless I'm mistaken, there is a warning about putting used Gulp back into the bag. something about causing the unused ones to start to decompose. Please correct me if I'm wrong. But I'm never wrong. ;D -Perry- Quote
PondBoss Posted March 16, 2007 Author Posted March 16, 2007 They might decompose? Are you serious? Wow Berkley really cornered the market with a crappy product if thats the case. Quote

But I'm never wrong. ;D -Perry- Perry, welcome to BR. I carefully read the 6 different bags of Gulp that I have, nowhere does it state anything about decomposition. I would say that you are mistaken.... It simply states "Do not return used product to bag" Honestly, I've never had to return any of them to the bag, cuz after about 5 bass, they are torn up anyway. Just me. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted March 16, 2007 Super User Posted March 16, 2007 I've put used Gulp baits back in the bag. Doesn't seem to have had an effect on the rest of the baits. Quote
Chode2235 Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 I have had great success with Gulp. The plastic is a little rubbery than other plastics, but it is more eco friendly as it will dissolve in water if it comes off your hook etc. I did have a jar of the grubs that I used for ice fishing, and I did get some water in the container and all of the grubs swelled up about 3 times the original size. So I wouldnt put wet lures back into the bag. I think they are a great and well thought out product. I think I actually like the sinking minnows more than the yamamoto senkos. Quote
