I have tried to tie my own feathered trebles for baits but can't seem to get a good product.  AND I am tired of the Gamakatsu carnage on my fingers...those things are SHARP!

Any tips? Or better yet....anyone interested in a small retainer to supply me with hooks? lol

I admit...I am cheap and don't want to buy all the nice little vises and things for fly tying.  I know, you can't fix a sink with a hammer (wait......that may work).

With no vice maybe you can rig up something with a pair of locking vise grips. I would get a cheap vise and go with that because you will save the hassle.

harbor freight if you have one nearby has a nifty little gator clip vise called helping hands for 3.00 that will help you out

Harbor freight also does online orders. Ridiculously cheap tools. China imports mostly but you should be able to find what you need with shipping for under 20 bucks.

Ill tie ya whatever you want, you pay for the materials and dont make an outrageous request like 100 at a time, I just dont have time to do that many. But if you want a dozen or two on some trebles I can help. I own a TON of fly tying materials.

Thanks guys!

jhoffman, i sent you a pm.

I also live 10min from Harbor Freight and will check out the little vice.  I love the stuff at Harbor freight.  As a "shade tree mechanic" I cannot always buy Craftsman and Cobalt :Victory:

You're even giving him grizzly hackle.....Maybe you should do mine instead of me doing them, I just use plain hackle.

Heres the options he had

Feathers -

Grizzly - black/white barred

Cree(Its a barred, brown black white combo, look it up, cree feathers)

Brown

Cream(more white than cream)

Gray/Dun

Black

Olive

Hungarian Partridge

Pheasant breast feathers(hearts)

Other Materials -

Peacock Herl(shimmering green but fragile)

Natural Deer Hair

Moose Main

Orange Hair

Yellow Hair

Olive Hair

Black Hair

Rabbit Fur

Beaver Fur

Marabou - Olive, Black, Purple

Flash - Pick for EVERY hook group( example - 3 size 6 hooks with white feathers and clear flash)

Red

Blue

Brown

Clear

Specify if you dont want flash in a certain group

Do you want red or black kevlar or a different color(the other colors are not kevlar)

And thats not every material I have, I have some that I havent tested to see how they work, synthetics and what not

hes getting:

3 #6 and 3#4 hooks tied with the Grizzly, clear flash and Black Kevlar (assuming that is thread).
3#4's tied with Gray, clear flash and Black Kevlar.
3 #6 with Black Feathers, blue Flash and Black Kevlar.

Plus a dozen #6's of my own creations/imaginations

I'd be interested in some as well. I have a whole batch of red #4 Shaughnessy VMC hooks for saltwater I use to replace all of my resar trebles on my MirrOlures. Most of the ones I have purchased in the past are the 2pk Owner Tournament dressed trebles.

I can help you guys out after I finish his order. I should be shipping his saturday. Send me a PM if youre intersted. Cost is based mainly on hook chosen and materials. For example, that cree neck runs about $30 just for the feathers so if you want all those they will have to be more price wise.

Id also prefer from this point forward to only do orders of whatever size the hook packs come in up to a max of a dozen.

Example: The hooks I tied here on gamakatzu hooks...

6's come in a pack of 12

4's come in a pack of 11

If I have to order hooks and what not that might take more time. My local shops are very limited in the hooks they offer. Its better if you can send me the hooks you want with your specs and I charge for material/time/shipping. Trust me, it will be much cheaper than going to the manufacturer.

Heres 8 full on custom ones that I just came up with on the fly. Ill need to take a picture of the black and gray yet, I am going to split the last 4 hooks into the colors he asked for to ensure that he has as many useful ones as possible.

Note that on the hair ones with two colors that I paid attention to how it would hang on the split ring so it can be dark on top like a baitfish.

very nice.  i used to kill it fly fishing a Black Marabou streamer w/ gold bead.  i can't believe i don't see marabou used more in bass fishing.  any thoughts? i see lots of plain white feathers (don't know the official kind).

Marabou is fairly weak. I use it in a lot of "hair jigs". Whats neat about it is that it actually breathes. Maybe no one has ever brought it to market to test if it would sell.

I have a KILLER idea for bass fishing but I need to make some contacts with people who can ensure I dont lose what might be my only money making thought in this lifetime. I really wish I could just blurt it out and tell you what this idea is but I honestly believe that it could set the bass fishing world on fire so I am watching myself till I get some contacts made. When I finally expose it people are going to go... well duh, why didnt I think of that.

I like to tie myself...What I have learned over the years instead of using the standard of white or black etc..By tying colors that are in the body of the bait as well as creating a contrast at the same time, you will end up with an extension of the bait which seems to be more natural to the fish.

I like that orange belly one.

Part of the issue here was I had no idea what hook would go on what bait. Like you, when I tie my own I can tie in the color schemes.

Those are nice baits!

For anyone out there who may be wondering... you can buy white and make almost any of the brighter colors with coolaid. I have done so to tie a hint of orange into sulphurs as the ones here have an orange abdomen.

Take the coolaid and mix it up strong, say only a cup, replace water with vinegar and dip it in. You could do the same with food coloring too, like an easter egg.

I hear you......Another thing I like to do is play around by tying them longer, field test them and trim them up accordingly until they get into the sweet spot.......
