Lunker7 Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Hello everyone, I was thinking of getting this rod for my 11 year old cousin, anyone ever have this rod? Quote
skeletor6 Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 I have the Berkeley lightning shock 7' mh. I would have loved to have such a nice rod at 11yrs old. Very good for how much they cost. 1 Quote
Shoalamfishin Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Good rods. When I was growing up that's all my dad used was classic lightning rods on a Abu Garcia Ambassador. I have and older one myself and a lightning rod shock both are good rods for the money. 1 Quote

Super User rippin-lips Posted January 19, 2013 Super User Posted January 19, 2013 Your cousin will be plenty happy with that. Heck you might even end up with a few after you try it out. I've owned about 4-5 lightning rods in spinning and one shock casting rod. Never had any problems with any of them ever. There's quite a few people that use them on here. Quote
tbone1993 Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 I still use an older lightening rod as one of my setups. I have caught countless fish on it and its still in one piece. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted January 19, 2013 Super User Posted January 19, 2013 I recently just sold off the last of my Shock rods. They are amazing, but I cant stand cork. I still have an old Lightning spinning rod that is from 94 that I currently still use. Quote
nwmike Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 I fished jigs on the new lightning rod 7mh with fluro and was really surprised at the sensitivity the rod had for 40.00.I would have no problems fishing this rod as my every day jig and worm rod. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted January 19, 2013 Super User Posted January 19, 2013 I still have mine. I recently switched over to all Veritas rods. That said, I can't part with my Shock rod. I love the trigger, balance and the split grip. My biggest complaint is the guides. When running braid it sounds like a saw blade coming through them. My hook keeper busted after two trips but, for the money it can't be beat. Quote
gripnrip Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 Lightning rods and ugly sticks are excellent starter rods. I purchased a Lightning shock for one of my Sahara reels. I have been very impressed. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted January 20, 2013 Super User Posted January 20, 2013 Lightning rods and ugly sticks are excellent starter rods. I purchased a Lightning shock for one of my Sahara reels. I have been very impressed. I'd agree, but would give a big edge to the Shock in sensitivity. Briefly had a Shock, liked it but upgraded to the Shimano Compre. Still have my Ugly Stik Lites. Great rods for float fishing, beginners, or heck, really anyone who likes them. Always amazed at people who slay bass with "cheap" stuff. For example, Pat Cullen http://www.bassmaster.com/node/96838 "In December 2009, Cullen caught his 1,100th bass heavier than 10 pounds." And "One of the most impressive aspects is the simplicity of his approach. His tackle (for the last three decades!) is a collection of 6-foot Ugly Stik and Ugly Stik Lite Rods and Ambassador 5500C reels spooled with monofilament, In recent years, he has switched to Vicious line." Don't know about y'all, but he puts me and my Compres, Stradics, Daiwas to shame.... 1 Quote
