Attachement To Old Gear

I'm having a difficult time parting with some gear I replaced over the last couple of years. The issue is, it's decent stuff, Curado 200B's, Pflueger Extremes, and a handful of Revos, Regals, some Mojos, Elite Techs, assorted Lamiglas and it's all like new. Sell or don't sell ?

I ould sell if i asnt using it.  I also understand not anting to give a reel or whatever that you really like.

Any grandchildren coming down the pike? If so, save the gear for them.

 

Do you pond fish for fun? If so you can keep your favorite tackle home and use the older stuff.

 

Do you tournament fish?  If so you can always take an older rod and a reel as a backup.

 

Do you take others fishing who do not bass fish? If so, they can use your older tackle.

 

Do you need the funds to buy more new tackle?  If so, sell the stuff!!!

I loan a lot of gear out to friends and families if I don't use it but don't want to get rid of it.

I'm a pack rat and I like to keep things around for "loaners", but if I'm letting some use my gear I want them to use something that won't give them trouble.  With some of my lesser quality gear, if it's in good order, I'll just give it to someone needier than me.

the way i look at it, you bought it and its good stuff so why get rid of it for the sake of getting rid of it. Keep a little oil on rhem and you have suitable backups for tournaments. And if you have any old rods that are stacking up you can use them for technique specfic backup without fooling with yourr other rods. Or. Like others said they can be the loaners or whatever. I still have older rods and reels too that i dont use as much or any at all any more. Everynow and then ill sell one, when someone is interested and is willing to pay a more than fair price. (I say that because i just sold a reel and a rod that i dont use very often, someone else wanted it far more than i do )

All that said, keep the gear. Not wrong with letting accumulate as long as you have a neat place to store it.

Well, I do have a brand new grandson, Ian but he's 3 months old. He'll never hurt for gear.

I Have more than enough for loaners and or back up when I fish a tournament. Sick.

I've given some combos to friends already.

I'm two rods away from being dialed in with my new gear and don't want to go beyond that. Too much stuff is distracting anymore.

The only reason I could see to keep it is if my rig got cleaned out in a parking lot on a trip. I have very good insurance though.

I guess it's time to start posting it locally first and then on the forum.

Something old something new, my advise would be to sell anything you wish to sell, even if you are only thinking about selling something means it has no real value to you such as sentimental value for example.

 

I, like you,  have a hard time letting go of things that are still in good working condition, it's the way we were brought up, but if you wish to retain the items then you will only think of selling them again in the future.

 

I have only one item that I have kept through the years, that is an old Berkly cherry rod that my father purchaced for me, my first real fishing rod.

 

Take a good look at the things you are thinking about selling, look at them close and make a decision as to the real value of each, and make your decision based on each individual item, if you think some angler may benifit from this item more than anyone in your family then I would strongly consider selling it.

 

What is of no use to you can/will be of great use to someone else, they are just material things that can be easily replaced by newer and more updated equipment if I read your post's correctly, I mean nothing by that comment, other than a suggestion that may help you make a decision as to hold on or move forward.

 

Good luck with whatever you choose to do, it's great equipment to have thats for sure.

I say sell/trade em. I just sent a bunch of old, unused gear to THUT that should bring enough to get me into a Megabass/PXR setup

I've only held on to a couple rods through out the years.  If there was one reel I wish I still had, it would be an old Shakespeare ESigma spinning reel I received back in 82.  It brings back fond memories.

I wish I could just say "the heck with it, I'll sell, donate, trade" or whatever, but I'm such a "if it ain't broke to fix it" kind of guy. I've gotten better, but I still like my equipment...along with the new stuff...LOL

It never hurts to keep a couple for an emergency.  I would keep the best stuff and get rid of the rest.

I have a 13 year old that is going to be broken in with bait casters this year.  I have kept my gear to give to him.

I end up giving most of my stuff away. Giving things away to less fortunate ones on here is fun if it's done right.
