Polarkraft05 Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 The classic is within a 5 hour drive from me, so it crossed my mind to take the trip. But to be honest i don't exactly know what goes on aside from watching the weigh in. I'm not real big on meeting and getting autographs so that doesn't give me incentive to go. What other opportunities are there? I know there is the expo, but is it much different than a local Sports and boat show? Im just curious what all there is to do and if it would be worth the drive? The tackle expo Is a tackle junkies dream, There's more stuff packed into a small(ish) area then you can Imagine. I would assume there are other bassresource folks from near the area going and that's always a great time to meet them. The weigh-In's are pretty cool and If so Inclined going to watch a launch can be fun. Lastly, If you're on this site you're an avid fisherman and simply put the only regret you might have Is not going. Edit: I forgot to add pick-up a bag on the way In as there are several freebies handed out by many of the vendors. 1 Quote

Ya, ok, some would argue that's a reason NOT to go. Seriously, the expo is ginormous. And it's all about bass fishing. Seriously the largest expo in the world. It's really amazing. There's just a ton of stuff to see, try, buy, and learn about. Plus a lot of educational demonstrations and giveaways. Plus there's a great number of pros everywhere. Even if you're not a signature gatherer or a "star stuck" kind of person, it's nice to be able to meet and strike up a conversation with the guys and gals you only read about or see on TV. These folks eat, live, and breathe fishing every waking minute, and it's a great opportunity to pick their brains to help you with things you struggle with back home. Not only that, but all the company big-wigs are there. Got a question, complaint, or suggestion about a product? They are there to talk to you. Real time, face-to-face communication with all the top execs. You will never get that anywhere else. The weigh-ins are fun too. Although I've never experienced them as a spectator, I can tell it's a lot of fun - especially the final day. A few years ago, the Zac Brown Band opened before the final weigh in. That was really something. And on a serious note, I'd love to meet anyone from these forums. I really enjoy putting the faces to the names on the forums and gabbing about fishing. So if you're there and see me, don't be bashful! Walk right up and and say hi! I'll most likely be schlepping a commercial video camera and wearing a dress shirt, so it will be easy to identify me amongst all the t-shirts and camo. LOL! Quote

I've got a question for you guys that have been there. We're staying at Jon's grandpas cabin on the lake and we can't make the drive back and forth each day so we plan on just being at the expo and weigh in the final day. Are we going to be missing out on a lot by just going to the expo the final day? I only took the weekend off but I'll have Friday off too so I'm thinking we could drive straight to Tulsa the first day and then to the lake after the first weigh in. Any thoughts from you guys that have been? I'm pumped up to be there! This will be the first tournament I've ever got to attend and for it to be the Classic is just that much more awesome! Quote

Me and a buddy were at the Birmingham classic a couple of years ago and I saw both Glenn and Keri, walked up to them and we all had a nice conversation. The both of them made the classic experience that much more memorable. To say those folks were nice would be a huge understatement! Quote

I would do this for sure. I drove straight through from NC to Birmingham AL(6 hours) on the Saturday of the classic and didn't hit the hotel until well after 9:00 pm but It was worth every moment. Last year, I got to personally hang out with, and talk casually to many of the pros, including Shaw Grigsby, Ish Monroe, Debra Hengst, Denny Brauer, and Mike Iaconelli. It was pretty cool. Not to mention the cool product demos, and free stuff they basically force feed you the whole time. I spent most of my time at the Strike King/Rage Tail area, which is where I'll be again this year with Big O. Anyone from here should make a stop on over, and say Hi, I'd love to meet ya (yeah, you too, Glenn)! Quote

gripnrip Posted January 19, 2013 Posted January 19, 2013 They are having the expo within a few blocks walk of the BOK center where the weigh in will be. The BOK is a state of the art facility and the Convention Center where the expo will be, has had a bunch of upgrades. I don't know if anyone on here is familiar with the Daryl Starbird's car show. The Convention Center is where it is held and there is tons of open space for the expo. It is a vast open room. The Tulsa Oilers minor league hockey team played there before moving to the BOK. There is a stadium that has 8,000 plus seats for events in the Convention Center as well. I can't stinking wait. I will get to FINALLY check the Bassmaster Classic off my bucket list! The FLW will be having a major tournament from the same ramp site on Grand the first weekend in June so keep that in mind as well! Quote
