I wanted to like it. I gave it two honest shots pitching jigs/plastics on wingdams and rock once in spring and once in summer. I also gave it a shot with a fluoro leader for shakey heads. I used 10# and 12#. I casts incredibly well. It seems to have a better slaack line feel than braid but not better than fluoro. I never once had a knot break at the jig so its straight knot strength was fine. It frayed like crazy but i fish a river with a lot of rock and zebra muscles. 832 doeant fray as much as nanofil. I didnt have a fish break the fluoro leader ever but i was anle to pull the leader free when caught on a few snags fairly easily.line management was fine on stradics but it did twist a lot. The line can break easily at the knot if pulled but ive reeeled in 20# cats on 10# without an issue. I rwally wanted to like the line even more so now that it is available in high vis colora but 832 is just stronger amd better. The line is amazing though in cold weather for panfish in lower # tests.

I spooled a few of my reels with it right when it came out. The casting distance was awesome, but i was losing fish and baits due to it breaking. I went back to power pro 10lb braid and im very happy.

I think it's junk. The only thing it has going for it is that it's super thin and casts a mile on spinning gear. I found it to break really easily without much pressure. That alone makes it useless.

Ive used it since it came out here some pro/cons Ive experienced

Pros

Line Management

Sensitivity

Casting Distance

No Stretch

Cons

Finicky with knots need to experiment the suggested Nano knot isnt the best:

Abbrasion resistance

Price. though it seems to be lasting, so its not use for 3-4 months toss out type line

Retie line more after 4-5 fish it starts fraying at hook area

The retie thing some do this with any line as often but its needed, at least, with the 6# I use.

For me the cons trump all the cons reasons are I use a better knot that gets me a little over 9# breaking strength with the 6# line. I dont fish where abbrasion is an issue. Price it lasts multi seasons. Works great on spinning reel no spray needed no coiling issues. The distance gets me to parts of the lake other lines wont I have caught fish I wouldnt have otherwise

I use it with wacky senko, small cranks, nightcrawlers.

Ya, I want to like it too,  cast and transmit well, but I lost many fish last year due to brakage. I still use it and keep an eye out for the frays that seem to occure on the first ten feet of line. If I cut off the 10 feet of frays every few hours it seem to work.

It is great line for a few techniques. I love Nanofil for swimming grubs, wacky rigs, weightless senkos and flukes, small cranks. After a season and a half of fishing Nanofil I have not had the breakage issues that most others seem to have. Tie your knots carefully and give them a good pull to make sure it isn't going to slip and you're good to go. I always use a short fluoro leader with mine. It's terrible for bottom contact baits. Any kind of breeze blows a big bow into it and you can't feel anything. I've never fished a line that casts like Nanofil on a spinning reel. I've tried a lot of different kinds of line and Nanofil is in a category of it's own when it comes to launching a bait a long ways.

My experience with NanoFil is much like BlueBasser's... Good line.  It has the best slack line feel of any braid I've used, including fused Fireline.  I haven't had line breakage issues; I do leave 3/8" - 1/2" tag when tying a knot with the NanoFil.  I don't use diameters less than listed 8lb... mostly 10lb.

I had the exact same experience.  I had knots break, leaders slip etc.  I went back to PowerPro and all of those problems disappeared.

I really tried to like it.  I love the casting distance on it.

Tried Nanofill on spinning outfits for drop shot with a FC leader and didn't have any issues that was different than other brands of braid to FC leader rigging. I fish very clear water and the white color bothered me and couldn't get comfortable with white line, otherwise it's OK.

Today I don't use any braid to FC line rigs due to knot issues* and use FC line with the new swivel hooks like VMC for spinning drop shot rigs.

The best finesse braid I found is Diawa Samuri, green color small diameters and cast good.

Tom

* double Uni knot works with Nanofill or other braids for leader connection, it is still 2 knots; 1at the leader 1at the hook or lure.

It's junk. Even if you baby sit that line inspecting it for dings and nicks, you'll still break off like crazy. Like fishing with teflon tape. Stay away.

It took a couple years for graphite rods to be accepted as well.

I think once more people discover how good this line is for the techniques it's good for it will be much more popular. I've caught hundreds of fish on Nanofil, lots of 3lb smallmouth, largemouth over 6, and wipers close to 10, without any issues.

If you are throwing grubs and tubes with 1/16 oz jigs the small diameter of nanofil can't be beat!

I love the stuff.

This is amazing to me, how someone has zero issues with a line that I and so many others struggle with. You experience no fraying at all ? No weakest  of the line  due to fraying?  Do you even have to be bothered with inspecting it regularly and trimming off  the weaken line. If you're doing sometime different that me to preserve the iintegerity of that line, I'd love to figure it out.

I think the secret is to use a leader and let it get frayed instead of the nano. One of the lakes me and Bluebasser fish has a lot of Zebras and they eat our line fast no matter what you use so you do have to constantly check your line.

The leader helps a lot but I'm also rarely fishing with it and dragging it through rocks or heavy cover. It is a great open water line. Other than having to tie on a new leader I haven't cut any length of Nanofil off my rods due to fraying. In a year and half I've maybe gone through 5 yards of my Nanofil mainline, maybe. It is a line built for spinning reels and I think that's where a lot of people are having problems because they're trying to fish it on casting gear in heavy cover like braid, but it isn't braid. It may work okay on casting gear but I've never tried it for that. It's a niche line basically. It doesn't do a lot of things well but for the techniques it works well for nothing else comes close. The lake that Hi Salenity is referring to we're basically just ticking a small, lightly weighted plastic bait along the bottom as slowly as possible, Nanofil is great for this. I've tried several other lines and fished the exact same baits side by side with other guys and it just isn't really fair to whoever isn't using it. It isn't contacting anything, thus not getting any abrasions. Same goes for swimming a grub, light weight crankbait, or wacky rigging. It makes it possible to cast a mile and the low stretch allows you to set the hook at a distance as well. However, if you're trying to drag a jig through a rock pile, or fish a shakyhead you might as well just cut the bait off and throw it in the water because you're most likely going to lose it on the first hookset. So put it on a spinning rod when you're fishing open water and see if you don't change your mind.

The leader is probably the big difference. I only spool it on a spinning outfit and the two ponds I usually fish nanofil on are shy of rocks and no really heavy cover just weed . I use it mostly on weightless plastics or swimming grubs. I started using it because I didn't want to tie on a leader.

Jiginfule what knot you using have you tried different ones?

Im fishing like water & presentation you are no structure rocks just weeds and senko the like. All Ive ever noticed was right at the hook like 3-4" of line will fray after a few fish I dont use leader.

Ive mention a few times in posts that with the nano knot I lost 2 fish that I feel the knot slipped but dont think the line actually broke. I have not had slipped knot issue since changing type of knot tied.

Its not the easiest to tie but gets easier the more you tie it, give this a try just trying to help you

Double the line  a foot or so--run it through the eye twice-- and tie a Uni Knot 7 turn- cinch down leave 1/4" tag.

I dont treat this line like braid with hard hookset powering in fish its a very thin line true to its pound rating this means playing the fish a bit more plus the rod I use it with is ML power Moderate action so it absorbs quite a bit of force. My personal feeling is most think of this line as a superline braid and fish it the same way which just wont work.

I attach my leader with back to back uni knots with 5 wraps and haven't had any problems. I agree that others are treating it like a superline which it isn't. My hooksets with Nano are quick, short sets that are accomplished as much by reeling fast as they are by moving the rod. The combination of low stretch and sharp hooks does the trick for me. I also fish it on ML rods.

I tie the doulble palomar (nanofil) knot.  Thanks for the idea on a new knot. I'll try it and leave a little extra tag then usual. I find a consistant fray of 4 to 5 feet after a few hours of use. I'm using it on a NRX 852s (M-XF) I use 12# test nanofil which ought to accommadate a descent hook-set I would think. Thans for the info.

That's the knot I use when I tie leader on braid and have no problem. I may be over doing my hook sets, but with 12# test I figure it ought to hold up to a good yank. I'm using a Med. rod.
