Glad I live in the South. That is the biggest load of dung. I fail to see logic behind all of this. The lunacy of all this just boggles my mind.

From what I seen on the NYS troopers site and speaking with one last night in subway it was jut a "short" list still needs more added. The one I seen and what he knew of as well was just a list of basically every manufacuter of AR, AK, FAL, Galiel and tactical shotguns. Like the Remington 1100 tactical version is banned but not any other of the same model. The list still doesn't have SKS, or the ruger 10/22 and others which by definition are all illegal now in NYS. From my understanding also we can have all these weapons and even the 10 rnd mags just need to be registered and then the mags don't need to be altered as of yet you just only put 7rnds in and good to go! Lol I don't own anythin I need to even worry about I just think the ammo NIC check is a little ridiculous.

Thats just the thing Clayton, the 10/22 is NOT an assualt weapon based  on the states new qualifications of what is and is not. Just because a rifle is a semi-auto, and has a detachable magazine ,it does not make it an assualt weapon. It has to meet certain qualifiers to be considered one. The qualifiers I personaly read in the bill MANY time over the last few days are if it has ONE of the following " pistol grip, or thumbhole stock, flash hider or muzzle brake, bayonet lug, a threaded muzzle, grenade launcher, or a folding stock" A stock, standard, plain jain 10/22 has none of those, so it is not subject to the assualt weapon registration. As for the SKS, most SKS's are 50 plus years old, and there is also an exemption for Curios and Relics which NYS is defining as "ANY Firearm, rifle, or shotgun made fifty years prior" to the date the bill was passed. Lots of mis-information and paranoia out there right now being spread by people who have not read the bill. The 10/22 point being one of the biggest ones.

Can someone help me out with the definition here?

A semiautomatic shotgun with any one of these attributes, a fixed capacity of over seven rounds or a shroud that lets the shooter grab the barrel also qualifies.

What do they mean here?

I understand about plain ole 10/22 but some will be banned like the wanna be AR types just like the rem 1100 tactical.

Yeah, as soon as a 10/22 action is dropped into a "tactical" type stock, going by the word of the law as written now, it's an assualt rifle.

So, since this is a pump action, it's kosher, right?

Your guess is a good as mine John, one of the many "grey areas" of this that is TBD yet.

Correct, if any one of the evil features are met on a semi-auto, it will be classified as an AW.

List of evil features......................

 (A) A SEMIAUTOMATIC RIFLE THAT HAS AN ABILITY TO ACCEPT A DETACHABLE MAGAZINE AND HAS AT LEAST ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CHARACTERISTICS: (I) A FOLDING OR TELESCOPING STOCK; (II) A PISTOL GRIP THAT PROTRUDES CONSPICUOUSLY BENEATH THE ACTION OF THE WEAPON; (III) A THUMBHOLE STOCK; (IV) A SECOND HANDGRIP OR A PROTRUDING GRIP THAT CAN BE HELD BY THE NON-TRIGGER HAND; (V) A BAYONET MOUNT; (VI) A FLASH SUPPRESSOR, MUZZLE BREAK, MUZZLE COMPENSATOR, OR THREADED BARREL DESIGNED TO ACCOMMODATE A FLASH SUPPRESSOR, MUZZLE BREAK, OR MUZZLE COMPENSATOR; (VII) A GRENADE LAUNCHER

pretty sure still illegal in NY even prior to this ban. tube extenders were illegal for mosberg 500's and remmy 870s because it took it over 5rnds thats what I was told when a guy in our hunting party got stopped by the DEC for having one on his 500 they took his gun and he lost his license.

http://www.governor.ny.gov/press/01152013-outline-of-nys-groundbreaking-gun-legislation

Tougher assault weapons ban:

Under the stricter definitions, semi-automatic pistols and rifles with detachable magazines and one military style feature will be considered assault weapons. Semi-automatic shotguns with one military style feature will also be considered assault weapons.

Seems very broad

Added Ammo:

The legislation includes a ban on possession of pre-1994 high capacity magazines, and will require owners to sell the banned magazines out of state within one year. Existing ten round magazines can be grandfathered in, but may only be loaded with 7 rounds.
