Shoalamfishin Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 I have no suggestions other that what been said. The rule seems to be like a commandment to bass fishers. I myself have the... addiction... I find that I literally cannot go into town with any cash on hand if I am am going to be near sporting goods store. If I do not have a set agenda or a mission for a shopping outing it can turn into a bait buying extravaganza. When I lose something to a break off (forbid, oh help me) anything with significant value I have to replace it. Shouldn't they have help groups for things like this? The bigger issue is I don't want help! Embrace it right? I have had to find cheaper baits myself just to satisfy to "bait monkey", am haven't made it into the no-buy-zone yet but I have managed to cut down SOME of my ridiculous impulse spending. Quote
jhoffman Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 We almost had a round yesterday, till I had to drop $160 on groceries. I had my TW order ready to submit. Then she drops on me... we need to save $2000 for a new house. First words out of my mouth... yeah maybe but the boat trailer needs new rims and tires at minimum oh and I also need a new fish finder at the console so I can move the console one to the bow. Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted January 20, 2013 Super User Posted January 20, 2013 The bait monkey doesn't bother me anymore. I fed him until he died of bloat. Free at last. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted January 20, 2013 Super User Posted January 20, 2013 Sorry dude. There is no cure. Your dead meat. Quote
shootermcbob Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 papajoe222, I do believe you are looking at this all wrong. I have been married for over 21 years now. Here is how this works: Spend the 70.00 bucks on the reel. Matter of fact, get two! Shipping fees and tax do not count. When asked...You have just SAVED 119.98 dollars....which is the difference between regular price and sale price! This is called WOMEN'S MATH. Most men don't have the courage to use this. We are counting on you! Quote
bait__Monkey Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Used guys so funny. we saved money all da time. u no i have sister? yep she shop wit your wives and girlfriends, dey kep it secret. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted January 21, 2013 Super User Posted January 21, 2013 I had planned on making this a new thread until I found this thread so might as well ask here. Anyone aware of any FAGs in my area? Fishing Addiction Group. I promised myself a few weeks ago that I absolutely would not buy any more reels. Already had 8 more reels than rods. Then in about a week-and-a-half I purchased 2 more....a Gen 1 Premier in near mint (one light scuff mark) and a like new except upgraded Sol. Reels are easier than rods to get past my wife's attention meter, However, I have been loading the closet up in hopes that a couple more won't get noticed. Quote
SudburyBasser Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Got me again today. Now I have to buy a new rod to go with the new baitcaster. Well played monkey boy. Well played. Quote

If that Sol is a baitcaster and you ever need to unload it, contact me. I love mine and would find the money even if it meant going without groceries for a couple of weeks. Who needs food anyway? Big Bassman Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 You can never have too many rods, reels, or baits! First of all, you have to have spares in case there is a need and you don't have time to purchase new. Maybe perfect fishing weather or tournament this weekend? Anyway, spares are an absolute must! Second, if you pass up a good deal you will always regret it! And third, already mentioned "womens math", the amount of money you will save over a lifetime of bass fishing will be incredible! One also must remember the security and peace of mind along with the mental stability you and your family will benefit from. As I have previously stated, YOU MUST EMBRACE, LOVE, AND CHERISH the BAIT MONKEY! He is now and always will be a bass fishermans best friend. He only does what he does because we mean so much to him! One is the Master and one is the Slave, you decide! Quote
BassnChris Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 It was my wife's turn to host her bunco party.......so my son and I grabbed a Ron's chili burger and the off to our Bass Pro. I laughed out loud at the bait monkey and advised him I would absolutely not buy any bait or tackle. This fine and glorious evening! Then while I was not looking, his brother or cousin, the boat monkey sneaked up on me and made me buy a dang boat seat. That dag gum bait monkey was laughing at me all the home! Guess I can always blame my wife and her bunco gang of gals. Quote

I love mine and would find the money even if it meant going without groceries for a couple of weeks. Who needs food anyway? It is a baitcaster, and I may have to give up eating for awhile myself. I can live on my waistline for a few weeks. Hoping to finally get the spacers made for my Presso spool sometime the next couple of weeks. It will be going into this reel instead of the first Sol I bought which is stock. Been putting the project off for over a year. Bait Monkey bit me in the butt again last night. Just sent payment for a purple Alphas 103L that is in the flea market. Approximately half my reels are Daiwas. Didn't plan it that way. They range from a Procaster 100HN on closeout at TW for $30 to a TD-Z 103HL Type R that I don't even want to think of how much it cost. I can't afford any of the new high end Daiwas. Used is good. This last Sol looks brand new. So do several other used reels I bought such as the Patriarch XT and Lews Tournament Pro. BTW, had the Procaster cleaned before using, and it seems to be a real solid reel for the money. I like its color better than the Zillion PE Line Special. Don't care for all the gold on that reel. Pictures looked better than the real thing. Quote
Shewillbemine Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Proud of myself. Last night, I filled up an entire shopping cart on Tackle Warehouse and kept justifying the free shipping for a minimum $50 purchase. I then looked at the checkout site and clicked "X" on the top right since I'm still waiting for my BPS order to arrive. Walked into a local tackle shop today and bought ONE $2 product. Woohoo! Quote
RODNEY Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 It's easy; pay your bills, buy food, buy cloths, invest for your retirement so you can retire and fish; money left for bait monkey 0$ Rodney Quote
SudburyBasser Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 Sadly the bait monkey got me again. Coming back from Toronto (saw Soundgarden in concert again!) I finally visited my first Bass Pro Shop on Sunday (it's four hours away from where I live). I didn't need anything. Nothing. An hour and a half later I had a full basket and I hadn't even ventured outside of the fishing section. So much for saving money post-Christmas. Quote

I don't set foot in my local BPS UNLESS I have at least $110 to spend. The 10 bucks is for the taxes! 1 Quote
Jaiden Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 He got me last week. After a trip to Cabela's, BPS, Academy, and Dick's, I spent $75 on baits while I'm trying to save up for Bass Pro's Spring sale. "You can never have too many baits", he says. Quote
Jig Meister Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 The only way to be happy is to just buy that thing you want. Can't take it with you, so might as well have it now. Quote
SudburyBasser Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 That furry wretch bit again today -- though I think LgMouthGambler will appreciate this. Boss called today and said not to come in for work because of an extreme weather alert. Second time this week. So of course I jump in my Jeep and drive across town to the local outdoor store because I had bought a BPS reel for a dedicated crankbait setup and needed a rod. I ended up buying a Compre because my worm and jig rod from that lineup did a fantastic job last summer. Almost bought a Crucial but couldn't justify it at this point. Pass by the counter and see Shimano Caius baitcasters on sale. Yeah, they aren't Chronarchs or Curados but it was a 6.5:1 reel that would do decently as part of a top water setup. Ended up picking that up and a Shimano reel cover (If you're going to be a brand *****, might as well go all the way). Hell, they even slapped on Suffix 832 braid for free. So now I have a reel sitting on my desk which is screaming for a dedicated topwater rod. Guess I'll be going next week to get another Compre. Sigh. On the positive side, I passed by a table of half-price River2Sea and Live Target lures and not buying anything so I suppose I did win...kind of. Quote
Big Bassman Posted January 30, 2013 Posted January 30, 2013 I know I am new here fellas, but I am sooooo proud of your commitment to bass fishing and support for the "Bait Monkey", our true friend and lasting fishing partner! And SB, I can relate to the ever spiriling "rod needs reel" or "reel needs rod" senario. I quit counting how many times that has happened to me, but in the end I always feel good about the final result. You can never have too much of a good thing! Congrats on all the quality savy smart buys you boys have gotten lately! Quote
SudburyBasser Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Okay, so I only went to the outfitter to buy some stuff for an every day carry shore fishing set-up in case I drive by a lake and feel the urge. Made the mistake of stopping by the reel counter and saw the Shimano CI4 was on sale. Walked out with the stuff for the shore fishing kit...and the CI4. Thank God for that large tax refund...sigh. Oh well, at least my worm and jig set up is absolutely going to kick butt. Quote
