Snakehead Whisperer Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Hello, my name is Andrew and I live in Washington DC. I enjoy fishing in general, and have been fishing since I was a kid. I grew up in San Francisco, CA. Before moving to the East Coast I did very little bass fishing, as we focused primarily on saltwater (cod, stripers/rockfish, etc.) I have grown into an avid freshwater fisherman. The fishing in and around the DC/MD/VA area leaves me no shortage of good action to get into, so I am very thankful to live here. I'm hoping to be a solid contributor to this forum, as I have been lurking here for quite some time and I'd like to give back to the community. Thanks to all the posters here and the site administrators for sharing their knowledge and for the countless hours of good and informative reading they've treated me to. Quote

Traveler2586 Posted January 18, 2013 Posted January 18, 2013 Welcome Andrew, enjoy the forum. We'll have to hook up some day, I'm just south of you and launch out of Smallwood State Park on Mattawoman creek. Are you a boater or non-boater? Quote

I fish that area pretty frequently Spring-Fall (Mattawoman, Piscataway, Mallows Bay, etc.) I usually fish from a 17' canoe. Quote

Snakehead Whisperer Posted January 18, 2013 Author Posted January 18, 2013 Welcome to Bass Resource! Im over here on Marylands eastern shore in Caroline County. Thanks Tuckahoe Joe. I need to get out that way some time before Spring to get at those chain pickerel on the Eastern Shore, while it's still cold. Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted January 18, 2013 Super User Posted January 18, 2013 Thanks Tuckahoe Joe. I need to get out that way some time before Spring to get at those chain pickerel on the Eastern Shore, while it's still cold. Haven't caught a bass since November. Chain pickerel and stocked trout are about the only things still biting. Caught a few nice picks this past fall between 18 and 24 inches. Quote

Pickerel are awesome fish to catch. I have limited experience catching them down in Southern MD as a by-catch while bass fishing, but everything I read leads me to believe that they're more common in your neck of the woods. Quote

I just started fishing this past year so I don't really know how common they are but I do know that I definitly started catching them a lot more in the fall when it started to cool off. Caught them on KVD 1.5's and BPS worms fishing for bass and 1/4oz roostertails fishing for trout. Quote

As far as I know, the Eastern Shore is a pickerel heartland. Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted January 18, 2013 Super User Posted January 18, 2013 Good luck to you. I need to get my 2013 liscence soon. I wanna get out for some trout before it warms up but a pickerel or 2 is always a nice surprise. They always put up a really good fight. 1 Quote
