thehooligan Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 Welcome, i use the stradic 1000 for all my finesse fishing. Really no reason for the 2500 size unless your using 8lb or larger flouro. I use 10lb braid with flouro leaders and the 1000 cast it great. Plus the 1000 reel is a good deal lighter.... Quote

Welcome to BassResource, you are at the right place. You should be asking yourself if you need the extra line that the 3000 stradic accommodates for. Also, when dropshotting I use 8lb or 6lb line so the stradic 2500 spool is definitely big enough to accommodate for all of my dropshotting needs. Unless you are dropshotting with 12lb or over line I would recommend going with the 2500 size. Everything is the same between the two except for the size of the spool, so performance should be the same. Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 17, 2013 Super User Posted January 17, 2013 Off the top of my head I can think of only 3 reasons to favor a slightly larger spinning reel. More IPT, more line capacity and a better balance on a longer rod. I use several sizes, I like my reels match the rods I'm using, setting the drag to the line I don't feel extra horsepower is that important. Is there a difference between a 2000 or 2500 and a 3000 other than line capacity, I don't think it's absolute with all manufactures, you have to check the brand and model to be sure. Quote

Super User iabass8 Posted January 17, 2013 Super User Posted January 17, 2013 A 2500 size reel is more than enough to handle a DS. The stradics drag is effortless and very smooth. On my vertical jig rod, I use a 1000 stradic jigging down anywhere from 20-40ft for walleye and have brought up countless flathead cats, big head cap and common carp in the excess of 20# and the drag has never failed or slipped once. There have been some times than the large car[ and catfish has ran me into my backing but that is very few and far between and almost non existent for bass. I'm sure the 2500 would be more than adequate for drag. It will be better for you to put the reel on the rod rather than blind buy for such a technique because comfort will play a bigger role than other techniques. 1 Quote

If the reel isn't comfortable to use and a smaller reel is more than adequate than there serves no purpose to use an oversize reel that will be uncomfortable to fish with. Quote
Cutnshoot Posted January 17, 2013 Author Posted January 17, 2013 In was just thinking the larger spool would cast better but if it s larger in length instead of diameter I guess it dosent mater there is jsut a fraction of a pound differance in the 3000 and the 2500. I guess this calls for a road trip to see for myself. Thanks again for the replies I live in texas so the fish we catch here can tear up some stuff in the jungles we fish. Probably need 10 to 15 pound line. I have never fished a drop shot. I have spent most of my time pitchin and worm fishin and cranks. Quote
