Will a circle hook, hook a carp if the pole is in a holder while your bass fishing?

Possibly. One of the advantages of a circle hook, is that just a little pressure on it, and it sets itself. Now, that's not a guarantee that it will be hooked good enough to land the fish, but it could very well stick itself. So, load up a big old Octopus hook with some dough balls or something, set it in your rod holder, grab a brewski and kick back if that's your thing, and just chill. Happy fishing!

Grass carp are not native in the US so most were planted to control weed growth.  They are generally protected.  Make sure yours are fair game and avoid a fine if they are. Do you know they will hit a top water bait ?

I have caught several carps on circle hooks, so they do work. Carps have relatively small mouths, most people use size 2 or 3 hooks for them.

 

They will hit top water bait, but not normally moving ones since they are not aggressive fish. I think small floating lures like fly lures work the best. And they are bottom feeders. Make sure your bait is laying on the bottom of the water.

Some of my most memorable days of fishing involved carp feeding on the top. Not sure what they were feeding on but they sure liked my parachute Adams being thrown on my 4wt. It was the only time I have ever had a fish go into my backing twice

doesnt hurt to try, it works with other fish, and if youre bass fishing on the side, you may want to attach a bell to your carp rod so you can hear it go off and dont have to be constantly looking at it, though ive never used a bell on a rod myself. i do a lot of bait soaking night fishing at smith mtn lake. sit back with a cooler of beer and wait. sometimes i fall asleep in the chair on the dock LOL, but when i wake up ill have a pole or two with fish hooked...

we have them trained here at the Golf Course......every time when my guys dump their clippings in the ponds, here come the carp. Biggest one snagged to date 48lbs, GOOD FUN!!!

Grass carp will eat green or olive colored wolly buggers too. You have to find them actively feeding on the top and you only get one or two shots at them but the fight is worth it when you hook up.

I have snagged the darn things with a rat-l-trap while bass fishing.  You will need a strong reel.  When they realize they are hooked they take off.

But seriously, I know a lot of people here in DC who chase carp on the fly with great success. I can only imagine the fight.

 

I've foul hooked 2 carp in my life (never targeted them.) Both times were on ultra-light tackle, and both times I landed the fish. Their strength is admirable. If I ever get a fly rod, I may just go after them.
