Anyone that has one of the 3rd Gen Revo STX baitcasters...

I'm having a problem getting the spool to stop on my casts without braking it down hard with the knob.  I've tried 2, 3, 4, and 6 pins engaged and modified the magnetic brake with each setup.  I'm not new to baitcasters.  I have a Lew's TP1H and 2 Pflueger Patriarch XT's.  I can cast the heck out of all 3 and get massive distance with zero backlash and a great spool stop from my brakes on all 3 of those reels using as light as 1/4 oz crank baits.  For some reason I just cant adjust the new Revo to cast decent.  Anyone have any ideas?  I'll admit this is my first Abu baitcaster so maybe there's something different in adjusting the Revo?

Thanks Glenn, great video. Your videos are how I found this site.  I had the flu over Christmas and it kept me off the water for 2 weeks, so I hopped onto Youtube to "study" since I couldn't be out there.  I stumbled onto one of your videos and I think I may have watched every video on your channel.  Your videos kept me wishing I was out there fishing.  I appreciate what you are doing for the sport.

I had already watched this particular baitcaster setup video, but was still having problems adjusting the Revo to brake correctly.  I went back to 2 pins out and turned the mag brake up to about 8 after looking more closely at my Patriarch XT's setup.  A couple of casts in the yard and it looks like it's casting better.  Here's to hoping it casts like that on the water this weekend.  Thanks, again.

My gen 3 STX has 2 brakes engaged with no mag assist, and the spool is set just to where there's no side to side play in the spool and I don't get back lashes. Same way with my gen 3 revo s.

No probs with my Gen 3 STX that I've had and fished quite a bit since September.  Set mine about the same as TNBassin, 2 pins on but with some mag assistance, depending on wind.

Are you using your thumb to slow it down?

Occasionally when necessary, but not on an open water cast where I want max distance.  Sure, I'll thumb the spool for accuracy type cast when bank fishing.  I had set my other 4 reels where I don't have to thumb them except for distance control.  I've been throwing a baitcaster for 10 years.  I was just having trouble with this particular reel.  It appears that the changes I made last night have corrected my problem.  It's casting much better.  Thanks!

I really like my Abu reels, I don't own a Gen 3, but every Abu I've owned needs more spool tension than my other reels. I guess they free spool easier, anyway every year I start with the tension knob set to the point where the lure will barely start to fall.

Great tip. Thanks.  I think I'm starting to figure that one out as my Pfluegers and Lew's do not require that. There's a ton of hype around the Revo's and I just had to have one to see what it was all about.  Now that I have it adjusted right, I cant wait to fish it this weekend.

I have 4 of the Gen2 Premiers, an MGX and a Gen3 STX. Something I noticed right away on the STX is that I had to really crank down on the spool tension knob to get the lure fall rate to be the same as my other AG's. I tried lots of stuff to change that. Put in extra fiber pieces, tried the caps from the Premiers and MGX. None of it really made any difference. So, for whatever reason, I know I just have to put use more force to screw that knob in to get it where it needs to be.

How are these reels been treating you guys overall...I found someone selling some locally 80 off retail so I was thinking about jumping the gun!

Honestly, I don't get it as far as all the hype they get.  If I had it to do over with, I'd have bought another Lews TP or tried one of the new Okuma Helios.  I'm probably going to sell mine and get a Helius and give that a try.  I held one last week in a tackle shop and really liked it.  It's not that the STX is a bad reel, I just expected more with the masses that are loyal to Abu.  Guess I've just been spoiled by better reels and I expected too much out of the STX.

I'd be all over them at that price! I've been impressed so far with mine....I like it about as well as my Lews TPs actually.

I too have trouble adjusting tension knob on Revo 3 STX. My Lew's are much easier to get dialed in. I bought the Revo 3 for the little more line capacity.
