TRYTOFISH Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 i use 832 braid on most my reels i have yet to find a pair of scissors to cut it clean. any suggestions? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 13, 2013 Super User Posted January 13, 2013 Sharp knife. For "tag ends" finish them off with a lighter. It takes a little practice, but it works great. Move the tag to the flame, not the other way around. 1 Quote

Super User Long Mike Posted January 13, 2013 Super User Posted January 13, 2013 By far, the best device I have found for cutting limp braid is The Snip. It cuts braid like the proverbial knife through hot butter. I learned about it on this site. Some of the best advice I have ever received. http://www.boomerangtool.com/shop/the-snip-basic/ 3 Quote
MrSwimJig Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 I have a pair of Lews Aluminum Pliers with the tungsten cutters and they work awesome and look awesome as well. http://www.lews.com/images/pliers.jpg Quote

BradH Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 X2 for sharp knife. No sense making it harder than it is. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted January 13, 2013 Super User Posted January 13, 2013 X5 on the Boomerang Tool. Most efficient and convenient braid cutter on the market. Quote

Super User iabass8 Posted January 13, 2013 Super User Posted January 13, 2013 Westcot titanium bonded scissors in the 5" size. Cost around 5$ at home department stores and are ridiculously sharp. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted January 13, 2013 Super User Posted January 13, 2013 A sharp knife works great for cutting through a stand of braid but what about for getting the knot off the line tie? Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted January 13, 2013 Super User Posted January 13, 2013 The scissors i mentioned above..or a lighter Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 The Boomerang Snip is the deal. It cuts braid like butter with no frayed ends. This is not a gimmick product. It's good enough that I bought one for my tournament partner. Scissors are a thing of the past. Quote
The Next KVD Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 umm whats so hard about this?? Just grab the tag end and pull tight and snip it with a regular pair of scissors. I just use the ones that I get at walmart for $2 and they do the job great with no frays. If you do start getting frays just replace the scissor. 2 Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted January 13, 2013 Super User Posted January 13, 2013 X3 - and I have 3 of them - One on the boat, one in the tackle shop and one hanging on the tackle bag. A-Jay He use to have four of them. LOL Thanks A-Jay. 1 Quote

Thats what I do, and honestly, those cheapo scissors last as long for me, if not longer than any that I have ever bought labled as "braid scissors" Quote
fowlskies Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 I keep my knife razor sharp, it cuts braid like a hot knife through butter. I've used a few different scissors in the past and none have worked as well as a good sharp knife. I've used those wescott scissors mentioned earlier and they sucked, I had a Berkley pair of braid scissors that worked well for about a season and a half but started to loosen up and didn't work all that well after that. Interesting enough what works as well as or better than your standard pair of braid scissors are the Fiskars child safety scissors. They just pop right through the braid and leaves a nice clean end. But the same thing eventually happens and they loosen up and lose their effectiveness. Quote
nascar2428 Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 A regular pair of Fiskars works fine for me. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 14, 2013 Super User Posted January 14, 2013 Best thing to cut braid is a lighter or a cigarette, it's actually melted not cut. The burnt end will have a bead formed on it which is a little extra help to prevent the tag end from puling thru, works for mono too. Quote
Hanover_Yakker Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 Here's a little known tip and begs the question......"Are you smarter than a kindergarden child?"..... If you're using braid specific scissors of any form, you've already missed the boat (pardon the pun) and quite possible spent money you may not have needed to. All you need is the exact same FISKARS scissors used by kids during elementary school. I have three pairs from my son's previous classes and they cut my 65lb. PP with no issues and leave no tag ends. I also have the SNIP tethered to my PFD while fishing in my kayak, but when I am at home rigging my rods or changing leaders, I use the simple FISKARS kids scissors. I carry an extra pair in a waterproof container while on the water just in case my retractable tether fails or gets severed while out on the water. Quote
