jonnysmith Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 ..Hey guys a good buddy of mine owns a big farm in central florida & he made a swimming/fishing pond in his farm its about 1 acer in size,he added bass,oscars,peacocks & cat fish 2 the pond,he asked me if he should add snake head fish to the pond for fishing purposes..my question to u guys is, do u think its safe to add (snake head fish) to his pond even tho him & his kids swim in it?...ive heard snake heads are very aggressive & have sharp teeth,..would adding them to the pond be safe for the kids & the other fish??...thank you guys ur feed back is appriciated. And I don't know if they will attack humans but I certainly would want to swim in a pond that had them. I would think the bass and peacocks would be plenty game in the water. River monsters did a special on snake heads. River monsters is available on Netflix. I would watch it and see what Jeremy Wade has to say about them. Lol. Jk I would first contact your local wildlife biologists and seek their opinion and any information that they have on the fish. 4 Quote

X2, I think it's a federal law about trafficking Snakeheads; your friend could face charges. Please check with your states Department of Natural Resources before doing anything with Snakeheads. Here in MD they have killed off entire ponds to eliminate the Snakeheads. Quote

Being from the country I know that birds, cattle, deer and other animals can and will move fish species to neighboring water holes, lakes, rivers and ponds. Quote

jonnysmith Posted January 14, 2013 Author Posted January 14, 2013 the gators dont worry him to much, the pond has a protective barrier all around just 4 that,but i think the Snake head fish idea is gonna have to be removed..not only is it very ilegal, they can grown up tp 4feet long,they r aggressive and have big teeth thats like adding barracudas to your pond,in my opinion. IMHO the best answer I can give you is to check with your states Department of Natural Resources for their advice, they may even help with access to yearling's. Go to their web site, look for their Fisheries page, and shoot off an email to their fisheries Biologist. What's a nearby town? I'll look for a link and let you know. Yes, anything along those lines. I knew a landowner that got large chunks of concrete debris from a road construction site for free. Is Roland Martin still down there? If so, look him up and see if he'll offer some advice. Quote

jonnysmith Posted January 18, 2013 Author Posted January 18, 2013 thats awesome buddy as to what i hear he is a really cool dude, 2 freinds of mine went 2 his fishing school in clewiston,fl..they told me it was pricey,but well worth it, we went out on 2 boats fishing & they whipped I disagree 100%...while i landed 1 fish they landed 3 or 4,i sure pays to educate urself.. I've met Roland many times here in MD, and had a chance to spend some time chatting with him at a B.A.S.S. ProAm on the Potomac. If I recall correctly Roland is a MD born and raised guy, and easy to talk with; he's also no dummy and a good businessman. I didn't care that much for his TV show however, it's like it really wasn't him, but that's TV for you. Quote
