While they are at it the Reds should have to change their mascot because it is offensive to people with big heads. I don't hear any native americans complaining, it is random people with nothing better to do, just like the up roar about the braves batting practice caps. Everything gets blown out of proportion these days, jeeze. 1 Quote

Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted January 11, 2013 Super User Posted January 11, 2013 Im part blackfoot and I approve of this nickname. I had a discussion with Aubie and Big Al the other day. We three decided that the Aubie is offensive to tigers everywhere, and that 9 out of 10 elephants are offended by the way Big Al is portraying them. As a representative for these poor animals we are filing suit for name changes. We are thinking the University of Alabama Greys and The University of Auburn Light Greys. Hopefully old people wont be offended by the words grey. As for the link to the story and its comment section. I like the name The White Devils. Im curious how the mascot would look. If they were playing in a snow storm would it disappear? What would the uniforms look like? If they were all white too and it snowed would they also vanish? 1 Quote

The mayor of all people, thinks he can get the name changed! HA! That dude needs to keep his hands out of the cookie jar!! Like most of the mayors before him, is a crook and a cheat. Amazing what the citizens of the district will elect and re-elect!! I have a feeling this might get put to sleep!

Super User Nitrofreak Posted January 12, 2013 Super User Posted January 12, 2013 Ok, just so everyone knows, as if you have not already figured it out, I am a Washington Redskins fan, and a Ford guy, tried and true, thru and thru, I bleed Ford blue, and burgundy and gold. MCS, I am going to hunt you down for this LOL !!! Ok so seriously, with the way things are going these days, it would not suprise me if this gets some real attention from loosers with nothing better to do, activist's, racest's have already chimed in and have taken it to extremes, honestly, it's just a name, a name stepeled in tradition, a name of a single football team, so really why should we care? it is what it is, a name right? Lets say they gain momentum, lets say they actually change the name, what then? who is going to give a crap other than we as Redskins fans, well lets look at whats next, how many of you are Eagles fans? why would we want our nations image represented by a football team in a place known for brotherly love, ever been to an Eagle's game? may want to think twice about that one if you are not an Eagles fan, brotherly love is definatly not represented anywhere there, or near there, do we really want our nations symbol represented like that? what about the dolpins, I am sure activist's would have a field day with that one, Rams, Sehawks, Cardinals, Bengals, Panthers, Ravens, I would imagine the same, what about the amazing Patriots? hhhmmmm, violence comes to mind, it took guns and death to be known as a Patriot, how much fun do you think they would have with that one, how about the Bucks, what do they represent? good times? I think not, point is these people have had their way far too long and have more strength than one can imagine, and your next !!! As stupid as this sounds, this is reality, and certainly possible for any of your teams !!! Just sayin ! I for one honestly am embarrased to see the vulgarity and hatred toward one another over what a name represents, people looking to advance their race over a stupid football teams name, it's senseless, if it fixes America, then change it, I am all for it !!! If it don't then leave it the #### alone and move the #### on !!!! Quote
Super User Sam Posted January 12, 2013 Super User Posted January 12, 2013 You can't have Bamasux and Awbunn wear gray. It is throwback to the War Between the States and it is unconstitutinoal. What we need is for both teams to wear mesh uniforms. The see through ones. Now everyone would tune in to those games!!!! And by the way, there are a number of college teams whose names are derived from the War Between the States. The schools keep it quiet so they don't upset anyone. One school no longer uses their formal name which bugs me. But that's life. Quote
Super User MCS Posted May 1, 2013 Author Super User Posted May 1, 2013 Sooo it looks like the Washington......Redtails http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/dc-politics/dc-council-may-push-washington-redskins-into-washington-redtails/2013/04/30/456cb72c-b1a7-11e2-bbf2-a6f9e9d79e19_story.html Man this is a little over the top. SMH........But hats off to RGIII he said "In a land of freedom we are held hostage by the tyranny of political correctness" ......Well said! Quote
mtaag3 Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 It's the owners decision and they already said they're staying with the Redskins. No one is going to boycott the NFL and make a difference financially and to be honest, not enough people are "offended" by it. The cost of changing everything would be prohibitive. I wouldn't sell the Redskins paraphernalia yet. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted May 1, 2013 Super User Posted May 1, 2013 Unless you are a full blood Native American I feel you cannot really judge at how this is just someone being politically correct. There are plenty of names that all of us would agree are from what should be used in normal speech let alone the name of a professional sports team. Also eagles fans get a much worse rap than they deserve. Plenty of other teams have more violence happen at games but nobody cares because they weren't the fans who threw snowballs at a drunk replacement Santa Claus 60 years ago. I am an eagles fan and have been to dozens of games across many different stadiums and I haven't seen anything different in any of them with regards to visiting fans. This is usually how it goes, people go to a game and tailgate (in philly this usually starts the night before) everyone has a good time and usually get pretty lit. Someone says something stupid, could be home or visiting team and the beer muscles come out. Most times it is nothing more than posturing but there is always one tough guy who has to prove he is the best drunk fighter and a fight ensues which of course is never a good thing. Now I will say that as a visitor in the linc you will get heckled and depending on the people it could get ugly but it rarely turns physical in the stadium, well except between eagles fans. I have been heckled in Baltimore, DC, Atlanta the meadowlands etc....and have yet to get into a fight. Basically you do something stupid and alcohol is involved stupid things will happen. One thing I will say that is better in philly than other stadiums is the respect for kids. I have seen numerous times where people are using less than appropriate language around kids and people will stand up for the families, same goes for catching a foul ball over a kid and not giving him the ball....be prepared to be harassed the rest of the game Sorry to derail the thread but after the phillies game tonight I needed to vent a little Quote
Super User MCS Posted May 1, 2013 Author Super User Posted May 1, 2013 IMO it is a compliment to the Native Americans anyway, the team is named that because the reputation of Indians as brave and fearless warriors and is honoring that tradition, not as anything disrespecting or degrading them.
