SteveKickinBass Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 I currently have Daiwa Light & Tough rods and Team Daiwa-S series rods and thinking about getting a few new ones. I'm looking to buy either Carrot e21 Stix or Abu Garcia Veritas. Please give me your advice, opinions, pros and cons of each. Thanks Quote
Flywatersmallie Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Con: Carrot Stix break. Lots of folks have had problems with them in various generations since they first came on the scene. My brother in law had one of the newer Wild rods and it was an absolute dog... Until it broke. Coulda just been that model too. There are people that like them and think they are very nice and sensitive. I am not one of them. Veritas: Pretty strong following, lots of folks like them too, I do dig the white color. I tried one briefly, wasnt a fan and I couldnt even tell you what it was. Just didnt feel right. There are some real good rods out there at that $100 price point though. Assuming with the 2 you listed, thats where you're at. Here's my list if you are looking at spending 100 clams in order... Fenwick HMG Denali Jadewood Falcon Bucoo *** *** Shimano Compre Quote
Super User Teal Posted January 10, 2013 Super User Posted January 10, 2013 Carrot stix are fragile and I've heard that their customer service is a nightmare. Nix the carrot stix. Veritas, good rods for the money, they are super light rods, but as a former Daiwa guy, I'd say they are step down from the light and tough ( veritas is much lighter tho). Veritas is a good rod tho, I have 1. I'd recommend that you look and research Powell, dobbyns, duckett, or the Shimano crucials. All very good and well respected rods. Most of my old daiwa and castaways are now Powell. Quote
endless Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 I own two E21 Carrot stix a CLTX761H-F-C that I use for frogging and CLTXPG671M-MF-S that I use for wacky rig. I have of course no problem with mine(knock on wood) but I do not recommend them at full price. My 7'6 casting cramps my hand and is uncomfortable. The 6'7 spinning isn't to bad. Doesn't bother me.I bought both mine on clearance. Teal recommend the Shimano Crucial and I do own one of them that I love. I use mine for cranks. I would definitely shop around more before making your decision. Any other questions I'm sure some one else could answer. Curious what do they have E21 going for? Also what are looking to use this rod for? Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted January 10, 2013 Super User Posted January 10, 2013 I have a few light and tough rods that I still use. Man, those were some fine sticks for their time. The retail was around $150 back then so perhaps equivalent to $200 today. Are you stuck on a certain price range of around $100 or are you able two get in that $150-$200 range. If so you will have many more options. If you can wait for the next big sale(likely a spring sale) then check out the Powell endurance line, dobyns champion, phenix recon or m1. These are some very fine rods that are joy to fish and are more sensitive than the light and tough rods plus they have lifetime warranties. Quote
tbone1993 Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 For $110 I look at fenwick HMG triggerstick, though you can find them at sub $100 thats just suggested msrp. I don't like the veritas, it is a cheap rod and it suits that purpose well. Yes the Fenwick costs about the same but it has a better reel seat and guides IMO. Abu makes reels better than they do rods. Want to spend more then move into dobyns. Quote

It actually was overstock.com's store they had set up there. Haven't fished it yet, but it is light and made with good components....especially the alconite guides. It seems to be somewhere between my St. Croix Premier and Avid in terms of weight. Impressive for the $. Quote

Impressive for the $. I have the same rod , I like it a lot but do wish it was longer. I am going to throw shallow cranks on it and invest in a glass rod for deeper baits. For $80 you cannot beat the sensitivity. Quote
