Super User A-Jay Posted January 10, 2013 Super User Posted January 10, 2013 Might be a smallie inside there but this one made me say it - "If this is a bass - it's a big one" A-Jay Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 10, 2013 Global Moderator Posted January 10, 2013 This one really surprised me because I'd never seen one before. My first and only goldeye from Milford Lake Kansas, looked like a little tarpon with needle teeth. Wasn't any doubt what this one was but this lake has some monster smallies so I was a little hopeful for the first 10 minutes or so of the fight. 40lbs from Wabunsee Lake, Kansas. Quote
chubaka Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 The same thing happened to my friend as well! Thought it was a massive smallie until he surfaced up. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted January 10, 2013 Author Super User Posted January 10, 2013 Ooooh this is a monster! Maybe not. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted January 10, 2013 Super User Posted January 10, 2013 Hit a jerkbait in 25 fow. You just never know. 2 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted January 10, 2013 Super User Posted January 10, 2013 Here are a few of mine.... and they weren't caught while smallie fishing but i figured they would still apply Quote
Brian Needham Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 I been know to work up a good Grinnel bite but never thought to take a picture.... Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted January 10, 2013 Super User Posted January 10, 2013 I been know to work up a good Grinnel bite but never thought to take a picture.... I have always wanted to catch one and this one was also tagged so i wanted to document the catch and get it to the DGIF for their research. Pretty cool actually since he was able to tell me what the fish weighed, length and where it was caught when it was initially tagged. Quote
BradH Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 The drum have fooled me many times! A month or two ago I thought I had hit a snag trolling flicker shads for walleye, smallmouth, pike, white bass and whatever else wanted to take a shot. Then the snag started moving but not really fighting very hard, usually the indicator of a very large pike that does not know she's hooked yet. Much to my disappointment it turned out to be a freakin' big softshell turtle snagged in the foot! Ahhhh! Quote
wnybassman Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 In a ll honesty this was not caught while fishing for smallies...............it was caught while fishing for crappie......................with 4 pound Vanish ) I kinda knew from the get-go it was NOT a crappie. lol 1 Quote
BradGuenette Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 First cast on my new cumara/ci4 setup and I hook into this on a shakey head, and 6lb test! 3 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted January 10, 2013 Super User Posted January 10, 2013 We were fishing a local cooling lake and were having a 50 fish day of smallies and largies. This put up the best fight of the day and came home for dinner. Common on Lake Michigan Quote
Dave Hull Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Was at Dale Hollow. Thought I had an 8lb smallie, baaaaa Quote

Biggest I ever caught was 12 pounds , which I was proud of since the state record is 17, LOL 1 Quote
