Small Swimbaits

Im looking for swimbaits that are 1 oz. or smaller, but will still catch me big fish. Any Suggestions?

I like the action of the Spro Baby BBZ-1 swimbait. That's about the smallest hard swimbait that I've used though. I can't wait to try the new Havoc Sick Fish this spring.

The lake fork magic shad, mattlures baby bass, havoc grass pigs, and even the swimming super fluke/swimming caffeine shad could produce well. You can even make all but the baby bass weedless!

Huddleston 4" Weedless Shad catches me lots of keeper size and bigger fish. Swimming or stroking a Havoc Grass Pig on a football head along the bottom is a great big fish technique also, especially swimming over deep weeds.

Huddleston weedless shad (5/8oz) or Huddleston grass minnow (7/16 oz). Love them both! I have heard good things about the Keitech swimbaits, but have never tried them

I haven't used it in a while but the Strike King - King Shad has stuck a couple of 5lbers for me which is a nice bass in my part of the country. Tackle Warehouse is selling them for $ 7.99, I paid about $ 20 when I bought mine. That being said have read complaints that some have had these break at the joint though mine have held up.

I highly recommend the keitech easy shiner, in 4 or 5 inch, i use both and its by far the best soft swimbait ive used yet. When it comes to hard swimbaits, i really like the sebile magic swimmers, and river2sea s-wavers.

If you are into flipping/pitching instead of just straight swimming a bait, consider the 3:16 4" Mission Fish. Comes with your hook and everything ready to go.

3' Big Hammer swimbait on a 1/4oz head or a 4' on a 1/2oz head.

Rage Tail Shell Cracker! Swim it on a keel-weighted hook like a little swimbait, or turn it sideways on the same hook and use it for pitching into the nasty stuff. When you want a great  bed bait, rig it on a stand-up jig head, and rip some lips. Versatility, and fish catching madness, in all the great colors you want. One of the funnest baits I've ever fished.

Am I the only one who likes the Magic Swimmer.  I have had a lot luck using this swimbait, its the best one I've used so far.  Although the grass pig has put some numbers in the boat, but I use that in different areas than I use the Magic Swimmer so its not a fair comparison between the two.

 

I just got a couple real image swimbaits from Cabelas, can't wait till the water softens to see how they work.  I also got some Flatt Back Shad from Berkley that Doug Stange is always pushing that I'm waiting to tryout also.

 

But if I had to suggest two it would be the Magic Swimmer for open water and the grass pig for the nasty stuff.  I love the way the Money Minnow swims but I have not caught nearly as many on it as the ones previously mentioned.

   I think my boss just heard me lol on that one, JFranco.  Its not the size that counts its the motion in the ocean.

 

To be fair I haven't tried any of the ones that are more expensive than the Magic Swimmer, but in its price range ($10-$15) I think its one of the better ones out there.  Not that I have the most experience though, the only other hard swimbaits that I have tried are Strike King's and Storm's version.

I actually caught a bunch of LMB and SMB that day on that one and azure blue.  They work best fished like a jerkbait.  I'm sure figured out the "pop" to get them to turn 180* and look straight back at a follower - that's a cool trick.

For small swimbaits, I have had the best luck with the Lake Fork Tackle live magic shad. My best producer has been the 3.5 inch pearl fished on a gamakatsu round ball jighead (1/4 oz) that i buy at Walmart.

 

Looking forward to spring to try some of the others suggested in this and other threads.

My number one small swimbait is a trashfish rigged with a 8/0 beast.

Tru-Tungsten Tru-Life 5" , great action for a small hard swimbait. Make sure it is the sinking model , and super glue the pin in place. BTD has them for $9.00 dollars.
