Great rig for catching bass in thick junk.   Make sure you have the right gear because it puts a lot of stress on your rod and reel.

I'm excited to try it out as soon as the ice leaves. I love fishing jig but I'm sure I'll get better penetration with a putch rig. Til then I just keep reading and watching videos on them

I think I am going to make a few aw awell. Has anyone seen these for sale in stores or do you just make them?

Thanks

You can make them yourself, it's pretty easy. Just need the right rod and reel to cope with the real heavy cover because that stuff is thick! Get some 3/4 to 1.5 ounce tungsten (flippin) weights, a heavy gauged hook and a compact bait. Good to go.

This is one version of a Punching rig.

Here's the rig, from the main line to the hook:

-A stopped knot (I use a double uni-knot made from left over braided line)
- A small bead to keep the knot from slipping through the weight.
- A  3/4 to 1 1/2 oz tungsten weight
- a Boss Punch Hub - this is placed inside the skirt collar
- The skirt of your choice
- A parasite clip (optional, but does help prevent the plastic from sliding down the hook)
- A 5/0 Owner wide gap plus EWG hook (#5139 - very stout, I love this hook)
- Your favorite soft plastic - pictured is a Power Bait Beast

Hope this helps

A-Jay

Paycheck Baits makes a lot of different skirts that are ready to go. They also carry hooks and bobber stops. I personally like the super heavy cover flippin' hooks by Gamakatsu, but have also had good luck with the Mustad grip pin max hooks. Not that it's a big deal but you don't have to mess with melting the heat shrink yourself on those hooks.
