endless Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 with the season at an end or close to it how did everyone make out?? I only manage 1 deer and that is between three of us. The day when I shot this buck I ended losing two nice bucks an 8 and a 6 that morning. Being a noob to hunting I never checked my breach plug and to find out it was clogged. Lesson learned! Quote
preach4bass Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Killed 8 deer total: A mature 6, an old unicorn that needed to be culled, and six does. We've been eating good! Saw right many decent young bucks, so the future is looking bright. Nice job on your first buck! Quote
endless Posted January 7, 2013 Author Posted January 7, 2013 Thanks and sound like you had a great success on the season!! Congrats! Any on Bow season? Quote
preach4bass Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Killed a doe with the bow! It was my first year bow hunting. It won't be my last! 1 Quote
nick76 Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I got that 8 point that I shot the opening day of Muzzleloader season (picture from your other thread) and then I followed up with a large doe the last day of muzzleloader season. We have been eating it like no mans business. This was my first time back in the woods in 19 years so I am happy with that. Quote
Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted January 7, 2013 Super User Posted January 7, 2013 Been to busy at work to hunt. :( I didnt even get to go once!! :( Quote
endless Posted January 8, 2013 Author Posted January 8, 2013 Dang sorry Raider. Did anybody hook you up with any meat? Congrats Nick! Quote
jhoffman Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I hunted 3 days of archery at home, 5 days in hurricane sandy in a remote camp with no electric or running water in ohio, 1 day of rifle season and never had a shot this season. Ive been at it with mainly archery tackle for 16 years now. Sunday I went to the lake to mark spots to fish. On my way back to the car I took the 1/3 elevation of the ridge following tracks and hoping to maybe see a bedded deer. I walked up on a buck that was at least 160". You cant hunt on sundays in pa currently. I was 25ft at most from this buck. He laid there and watched me walk 300 yards of shorline of the lake then 150 back up to where he was and he never moved till I stopped directly in front of him and stood there making all kinds of noise trying to get video(which I did) even though its on my phone and its really hard to see at the moment. Super User Raider Nation Fisher Posted January 9, 2013 Super User Posted January 9, 2013 Dang sorry Raider. Did anybody hook you up with any meat? Congrats Nick! Yup. Lots of it too. :) Quote
endless Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 Good friends Raider!! Yea I ain't got much but sparring some to my buddy with what I got. If he ever comes to get it lol. Dang Jhoffman. Did you ever try to go back? Quote
lmoore Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Stuck a doe, but hit her low. Decided to come back the next morning and track her down. It rained like 2 inches and had 20 mph winds that night, so any sign of her was covered up/washed away. Felt so bad, I decided to consider my tag filled and never went out again. Quote
Super User Teal Posted January 11, 2013 Super User Posted January 11, 2013 Hunting season was Great! It cleared up my local lakes and I was able to slay the bass and stripers. No fishing or boat, pressure and no waiting at the ramps. I killed a small 6 with a bow back in September and that was the only time I went. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted January 12, 2013 Super User Posted January 12, 2013 My 10 year old son shot his second deer and my 8 year old son shot his first. It was a great season. 1 Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted January 12, 2013 Super User Posted January 12, 2013 That's a nice 11 point endless....... I missed the entire deer season this year but still have a roast or two from last year. Next year it's on though. I did see a monster 8pt last weekend though easy 140class which is alot for an 8pt I whipped the truck around to get a pic but he moved off the road into the field so I just glassed him with a cheap set of binos I keep in the truck. Gorgeous deer though he had 1 nice sized doe with him. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 12, 2013 Global Moderator Posted January 12, 2013 It was a tough year for me because it was so dry all summer that most of the crop fields we hunt produced very little beans or corn. I don't rifle hunt but we have a long bow season so I was out a lot. I shot a doe in December, first deer I'd had within range since October pretty much the only deer I'd seen since then. My buddy got us in on a small 20 acre plot on the outskirts of the city and after a month of having a camera out he had over 400 pictures! I spent the last 3 weeks of the season out there and saw some monsters but none close enough. It got me excited for next year though. Quote
jhoffman Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Good friends Raider!! Yea I ain't got much but sparring some to my buddy with what I got. If he ever comes to get it lol. Dang Jhoffman. Did you ever try to go back? This buck lives inside a state park that only allows you to hunt doe's with archery tackle. Im actually gonna go down there this afternoon for one last hunt, cant hunt him though. Quote
jhoffman Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Felt so bad, I decided to consider my tag filled and never went out again. Thats the way it should be, good on you Quote
backcast88 Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 I mostly bow hunt and killed my first deer with a bow this year. It was a small doe but she ate great and then I missed a bigger doe my last trip. I also missed a running deer with my shotgun the last day of VA deer season. I was comfortable with the shot, just had too much lead. Mom killed a 5 pt and a doe so our freezer is in pretty good shape meat wise. Quote
endless Posted January 28, 2013 Author Posted January 28, 2013 Dang backcast88 Momma gets in on the hunt!! I like that!Congrats to Momma and congrats on first bow kill. Sorry for the two misses. My uncle is about the get my Aunt a bow so she can go with us next year and me and my cousin thinking about trying to get our wives involved. Even if not hunting at least shooting and archery with us. Still enjoyable and fun target and skeet shooting with bow, handguns and of course shotgun for the skeets or some like to call clay pigeon. mnbassman23 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Pretty good year for my family. I shot a doe bow hunting, my father and mother each got a doe slug hunting, and my Fiance shot a doe bow hunting! I also got my shoulder mount back 3 weeks ago from the buck i shot the fall of 2011. Shot this big guy hunting public land, deer of a lifetime for me! 2 Quote
jhoffman Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 WOW man, heck of a buck. Ive seen one with double drops in 16 years with a bow. I grunted at him from a ground blind and I never saw him again.... rookie move Quote
mnbassman23 Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Thanks fellas! I shot him 10 minutes into legal shooting time, 200 yards away, and honestly had no idea he was that big. I about ticked myself when I walked up on him lol Quote
200racing Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 also got a spike, doe and a button buck thinking it was a doe. but the freezer is looking good. Quote
NeedToChangeMyName Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 I got a buck and a doe this season. I saw 4 or 5 that were too far away. Quote
