Guest the_muddy_man Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 Hey Fellas , I just bought some used topwater baits, and have my first 3 spooks. I changed the hooks and I put split rings on the hangers so I dont have to unscrew them, will this hurt the action or use of the lure? I guess you can say I'm now a Mook with a Spook Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted March 14, 2007 Super User Posted March 14, 2007 nah, you'll be fine. If i forget later, i may as well say it now.... Good luck at the Fork muddy. I hope you do very well. Wayne Quote
GobbleDog Posted March 14, 2007 Posted March 14, 2007 I've caught a few bass on the Zara Spook, but it really is a big lure. Most of the time I prefer the smaller sized Zara Puppy. It takes a little more skill to walk the dog with the smaller Zara, but I like the subtle presentation better. However with all of them, I always change those dang cheap hooks Heddon uses. I haven't tried putting a swivel on the Spook, but I doubt it would hurt the action any. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted March 14, 2007 Super User Posted March 14, 2007 Sounds good, Muddy. Your alterations will allow you to have a higher hookup ratio. Now walk that dog. Quote
Infidel. Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 A while back (well six years or more) they sold some Pradco baits packaged as "Mystic" with high gloss finishes. The spooks that came in that line of baits came with split rings on the hangers and rotating trebles. They worked just fine for me. Quote
mike bat Posted March 15, 2007 Posted March 15, 2007 enjoy muddy .... the spook is a killer bait .... i started useing them last year caught a few nice bass and my pb pike came on a spook ..... i love fishing them just waiting for that blow up ... i put a o ring on the nose of the bait..... i tie to the o ring ... it seems alot easyer to walk the dog this way ... imo Quote
Gotta Love It Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 I love the spooks!!! It's fun to watch the big ones explode on them topwater!!! I really like to use them in Saltwater too!!! Good Luck with them Muddy!!! Quote
skillet Posted March 16, 2007 Posted March 16, 2007 I have just got to be fishing in the wrong water :'(! IMHO I think they are a little large myself. The puppy has split rings on them and the action is pretty much the same. I have never caught a fish of any size on a puppy but with light gear I have had everything from 5 or 6 inches up to maybe a little larger than a pound raise Cain ;D As Ever, Skillet Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted March 16, 2007 Super User Posted March 16, 2007 I love Zara's. They work great on bass and are fantastic on Peacocks. Quote
