Need more info.  Like what are your specific purposes for this gun?  For plinking, yes too much.  For home defense, or carry, maybe not.  For hunting, not nearly enough.

For what it is worth, I carry a 40.  It is a happy medium between the big 3( 9mm, 40 and 45).  My father carries a 45.  It all comes down to personal preference.  Typically 40 ammo will be cheaper than 45 if you plan on doing a ton of target practice!

BTW- Welcome to our boards!

9mm is plenty for CC, glock 19 would be the preference.

I think Mod00 carries the G27....I didn't  like it when I shot it cause I cant empty the clip fast enough, accurately enough. The frame is too wide, and short, and makes it a "harsh" shooting weapon IMO. BUT it is a popular CC gun.

If home defense, sure go ahead and get a full size and no worries....... but a CC, a good hollow point loaded 9mm that you can triple tap, they aint walking away.....of course you could always carry a 1911 I guess, LOL.

I carry the Glock 22 .40.  9mm isn't powerful enough. .45 is ok but I'm satisfied with my .40

9mm is good for target practicing. Minimuim .40 for defense/stopping power.

As far as being accurate, that's why you practice. Chances are you'll be in combat fire no more than 30-40 feet away.

I do carry a Glock 27.  And the grip was not perfect at first, but I have an aftermarket grip on it and it fits nicely now.

He already has 2 9mm's.

Speaking from a guy who likes to wear shorts, likes to not have to wear a jacket all the time and does occasionally tuck in his shirt I prefer the smaller of the bunch and go with a 9mm.  I have found that a .45 is too large of a frame for me to CC and be comfortable.  I also carried a .40 and decided that while nice, it is much more expensive to shoot at targets with than a 9mm.  I opted for the my 9mm for 3 reasons: 1) comfort 2) cost to purchase and shoot 3) protection.  With some high quality defense rounds you don't have to worry about knock down power if you turn their insides to mush.  The rounds I purchased are police rounds used by our local sheriff's dept.  Had my buddy pick them up at the Police Equipment for me.  I have no fear that I will not be able to stop a threat.

If you are considering a new gun, find place you can rent them or find a friend who has what you are considering.  Go shoot it, you might be surprised at the outcome.  I thought for sure my 9mm would be uncomfortable for my wife, she absolutely loves it and carries the same gun, only in Stainless Steel to make it "pretty".

I understand, I was coming from the side that guns are hard to find right now. I want to buy a G19 but cant find one, all the places I went said "good luck", they are out of the factory and we have no idea when we are getting more.

So I was coming from the premise that maybe he could make do with what he has for a while, since even if you did find something to buy right now you are going to get gouged on price.......but then again cant have too many guns, LOL

Jeff, what grip do you have? are you just talking about the pinky extension? THANKS!

You want to stand across the room and test that theory?? HA HA HA  I KID, I KID!

I never read any study that proved 9mm wouldn't get the job done..... meaning you take 3 to the chest, you ain't walking away.

I am a fan of 9mm and would carry one without hesitation.

That being said, I CC a 45. Why you ask? Because they dont make a 46

.45 is a great caliber.  I've carried one for several years now.  Right now I carry a 1911 Springfield 4" barrel.

I also have a 9mm.  I carry that one once in awhile.

I love a Springfield 1911. I have a Springfield armory micro compact .45. They are expensive tho. I don't think .45 is too much. They have tremendous stopping power. Keep in mind though the smaller the frame of the gun and the other the caliber you will deal with more recoil. Something to think about. I like mine quite a bit. I would suggest a Springfield armory xd subcompact.45. I have the subcompact 40 and I carried,it on my ankle for years as a back up weapon when I worked in law-enforcement. I was pleased with it. The flocks are great too I took to the XDs because they fit better in my hand.

I have the pinky exension on all of my mags, but the aftermarket grip I was referring to is the rubber grip slide over.  I can't remember the exact one I use, but I tried several before I found the exact one I wanted.  In fact it wasn't made for my Glock, but I exacto knifed it to fit, and you would never know if I didn't tell ya!

Kind of like those.  But the brand I chose didn't make one for Glock at the time.  Maybe they do now.

I conceal carry 2 glock 17s. I have owned 9s, .40s, and .45s of all 3 you can dump the clip in a nine fastest. Get some hot loaded deep cut hollows in a 9mm and it will stop anything that a .45 will. Ive never been able fo understand the obsession with larger caliber handguns for self defense. A 9mm hollow will do more than enough damage to neutralize a target, when placed in the cranial cavity or in center mass. If you cant place your shot where you want it, then a larger caliber is not going to make any difference. I would stick with a 9mm and save your money. Thats just me though.

XD9 sub too big to carry?

Surely you jest....

I've been carrying a Glock 30, .45 ACP for about 5 years and I love it.  9mm, .40 and .45 all have roughly 400 foot pounds at the muzzle, give or take a little, so just find a handgun, holster and belt you like and go with it.

That little modification enables many to be able to shoot the Glock well.  It is a "palm swell" that slips over the standard grip and lets the gun "swell" into the palm of your hand for a more secure platform.

Helps many shooters who at first think their Glock is not shooting accurately. A cheap, quick, easy "fix" and doesn't stand out.

I carry the XDs .45, I like the .45 round a little better than the .40 seems to be a little less snappy to me.    I also own a Glock 19 and a Sig 2022 both are 9mm, the XDs is easier to conceal.
