I had some bad luck with the veritas rods when they first came out and broke three of them.  I fished the mojo series for over a year and definitely liked them too.

Now when the veritas wasn't broken it performed well and for the price it is right up there for sure as far as bang for the buck.

Funny how a few broken rods will sway people one way or another. I feel the same way about Kistler's...........every one I ever had turned to dust in my hands, pretty sure most of it was my own fault, but I won't touch them again. Yet other guys love them, and have never had a problem.

I'm about to order some Rage rods and was just curious if you had an update on how these rods have been performing? I'm debating between the Avid and Rage series and I think I'm going to go with the Rage. I'm looking at a 6'8"MXF spinning rod and a 7'2" MM rod.

If you are debating between the rage and the avid, that means you can afford the avid. Go with the avid. Great rods. I have a rage b/c, that I like. But if I had to choose, I would go with my avid.

I think it was more if the extra money saved with a rage could be used for a reel upgrade potentially.

If extra $$ saved is the goal, do get an reel upgrade, then go with the rage. I would take reel upgrade over moving up one level between rod brands.

agreed and moving up between the rage and avid isn't an upgrade in my opinion, it is more of if you prefer the cork grip and not having micro guides

Thanks for the help guys. I think I will stick with the Rage then. I know I want a AVS68MXF but I'm still debating the second one. Can't decide between the MM and a HF

I just purchased two of the rage spinning rods this week. A 6'10" ML/XF and a 7'1" M/F. I am in love with the reel seat, for some reason that knob at the front feels wonderful in my hands. The 6'10" has a great feel to it, light fast tip but has plenty of backbone. The 7'1" is a little stiff so not sure it's going to be as suitable for shakyheads as I thought it would be, but of course I can always exchange it for the 6'10" M/XF. Now if we could just get some soft water!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is my drop shot rod. I have it paired with a Ci4 2500. Super light and plenty of backbone. I think you'll love that rod.

I hope i have better luck too :)

Part of me did question if the only reason they were offering this freebie was because they were trying to unload the rods because of a redesign or canceling the line entirely.....guess time will tell.

I had similar thoughts when I took advantage of that offer. I bought two rods from the St. Croix Bargain Room and got a free Rage. At the time, I was thinking either that they were trying to generate some buzz on the Rage to generate additional sales...or were perhaps trying to clear inventory and using them as a loss leader.  It's a year later now and Rage is still here so it looks like they weren't clearing them out...

In any event, my free Rage rod was the 7'11" H-MF casting rod - a niche rod for me and I have very little time on the water with it so I have no informed opinion about long-term durability of this rod series.

I took advantage of the offer too, ended up getting the 6'10MXF for a multipurpose spinning setup because I don't use spinning for much other than UL and ML, for a year now I've used it and didn't find a reason to change out, turned out to be a good stick.

Well don't forget about the lifetime warranty on the Avid vs. 5-year on the Rage...

Very true...I don't keep rods that long usually, except my fly rods and they all have lifetime warranties :)

If I am not mistaken while the same blank isn't the rage assembled in Mexico while the avid is state side? That is a difference there in attention to detail perhaps.

You are right although I haven't seen a difference in quality between the rods I checked out which was another reason I went with the cheaper rage.

Different types too, look at the Avid vs Rage MLXF rods, the Rage is 6'10 and the Avid is still 6'9

I remember that thread. I actually chimed in. This was before I knew my Rage was going to kick it. LOL.

Ooops, this is the actual thread. LOL.

My Rage broke a couple of weeks ago. The epoxy around an important component of the reel seat failed which rendered the reel seat useless. My reel came loose and almost fell off on me while I was fighting a fish. Needless to say I was very disappointed, and I sent the rod back to St. Croix, and was able to upgrade into a Legend Tournament Bass for the price of a Carbonlite basically. I have learned from this experience to keep my trim level of St. Croix rods from the Avid on up.

This is a valuable key point in choosing your rod!!
