Super User Ratherbfishing Posted January 9, 2013 Super User Posted January 9, 2013 Rapala husky jerk. Was wondering if you could tell me what the difference in action between a deep diving husky jerk and a deep diving X-rap is? It's possible you've never used either (deep diving version, i mean) but maybe you knew... Quote
Silas Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Over the years, the Smithwick Rogue has been my biggest producer. Long ago....over 20 years or so, the Rogue in black back, gold side, orange bottom was THE bait at TOLEDO BEND, La./Tx. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted January 11, 2013 Super User Posted January 11, 2013 Was wondering if you could tell me what the difference in action between a deep diving husky jerk and a deep diving X-rap is? It's possible you've never used either (deep diving version, i mean) but maybe you knew... I use a lot of the deep diving huskies. Probably have two boxes of them. I use them to cover deeper water. They will run as deep as 17-18 feet on a long line, small dia braid. The husky deep divers & smithwick deep divers have a similar action but subtly different.. I don't use the X-rap deep diver much. They have a more erratic action then the husky but are smaller in profile. The husky is better in colder water and the X-rap is better as a warmer water bait when the bass are more willing to chase. paul25 Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 the spro mcstick in the 110 and 95 and the husky jerk by rapala. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted January 13, 2013 Super User Posted January 13, 2013 My favorite is still the Smithwick Rogue. Sometimes you have to play with them so they susspend right but when you get them right they catch fish. Quote
Maico1 Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Wow, no one here using Vision 110's..... Quote
Jay Ell Gee Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Wow, no one here using Vision 110's..... If you missed it, the goal was to provide the OP with some ideas on jerkbaits that are cheaper to buy and learn on (lose) than pointers. The MB Vision 110 simply doesn't fit that criteria. Quote
riskkid 2 Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Rogue but bought me a McStick to try out this year, they look good. Quote
Hanover_Yakker Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 MirrOLures are pretty good good for me and have better color patterns that are more realistic than most. Koppers Live Target Herrings look pretty sweet. X-Raps are okay but the bills are very fragile. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted January 14, 2013 Super User Posted January 14, 2013 You guys need to relax. Anyone can comment here. I'm assuming ill get alot of people saying pointers anyways but, pointers are a bit too much for me, I'm still in high school and have no job, so i usually wont buy a lure over $10 plus ive never even used a jerk bait so i definitely wont pay for a pointer to start out. Just comment your favorites besides the lucky craft pointer. LC Flash Minnow 115. You can find them used for about $12. At $8 - $10, X-raps are a rip off. The bill isn't durable, and 3/4 of them don't run right out of the box. Husky Jerks don't seem to have that problem. Smithwick Rogues are a good option if you don't want to spend too much. Quote
0119 Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Snook tear up a jerk baits finish after just a few catches. I found the generic lure bodies that netcraft sells to be a economic alternative and you can put on your own preference of hook. The cost its low but color choices are limited. On the plus side there colors copy lucky crafts. Mirrorlure Mirrodines and Catch 2000 are good durable cheaper alternatives too as is the original Rebel Minnow. Quote
CPBassFishing Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Definitely check out the daiwa DB minnow. Very good hooks, suspends perfectly, and it has great colors. Best feature? Its only $6. 1 Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted January 15, 2013 Super User Posted January 15, 2013 The LC Pointer is one of those baits that you should save your nickels and dimes until you can afford to buy one... it's that good. oe Quote
senko_77 Posted January 16, 2013 Posted January 16, 2013 I'm surprised no one on here has suggested the Rapala original floating minnow. Once the water warms up a bit, that thing will get eaten when nothing else will. Cast out, let the ripples settle, then one twitch. Let the ripples settle again, then two twitches. Repeat. I've caught a ton of fish doing this. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted January 16, 2013 Super User Posted January 16, 2013 I don't know about the rest of the country, but in Missouri, the tournament record of the Lucky Craft Pointer is unmatched. The spring jerkbait window isn't open that long. I'd go ahead and save my pennies for a few Lucky Craft Pointers. That being said, I hear about more and more guys each year throwing the Vision 110.
