Matthew Veillion Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 I'm assuming ill get alot of people saying pointers anyways but, pointers are a bit too much for me, I'm still in high school and have no job, so i usually wont buy a lure over $10 plus ive never even used a jerk bait so i definitely wont pay for a pointer to start out. Just comment your favorites besides the lucky craft pointer. Quote
gman2 Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Smithwick- Rogues classic producing jerkbaits Rapala-xrap nice baits for the money... bass pro shops stuff don't look to bad...never used one personally Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted January 6, 2013 Super User Posted January 6, 2013 Academy Sports H2O baits are inexpensive and work well. Rick Clunn STX jerbaits are good too, might need a hook change. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted January 6, 2013 Super User Posted January 6, 2013 You may want to look at the Luck "E" Strike RC. I have one but havent fished it yet. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 6, 2013 Super User Posted January 6, 2013 Luck-E-Strike Rick Clunn Stx, Excaliber EEeratic shad are two that I tried and had good success with last year. With the RC Stx getting a slight nod for smallmouth, and the Excaliber seemed to be a better LM and pike bait. I will try the SK KVD's this coming season. I have always had the Spro Mcstick on my try list, but for some reason I have not yet. I was never a big fan of X-raps, I caught fish on them, but I got way too many duds right out of the package, baits that would sink like rocks, leak, float, etc....I did like the husky jerks though, and for many many years they were my go to suspending jerkbait. Super User Teal Posted January 6, 2013 Super User Posted January 6, 2013 My favorite is a L**** C**** P****er. But I really like the Rapala XRap. I throw it a lot. I did buy two of the Luck E Strike STX jerkbaits last month to see wht was all the fuss about, and it is a great jerkbait for 8 bucks. ( if any of y'all buy these, change the split rings and add quality hooks). I found out hard way. Otherwise a good bait. Suggestion. Start out with the Smithwick Rogue. They are 5 bucks or so and they are proven baits. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted January 6, 2013 Super User Posted January 6, 2013 I love the Owner Cultiva Rip'n Minnow 65 and 70 but they are getter more expensive and harder to come by. I also like the Damiki Striker 90, and Yo-Zuri Sashimi Jerkbait. For a good bait on a budget I'd say Bomber Long A, Spro McStick, Strike King Wild Shiner, or the classic Smithwick Rogue. I personally wouldn't pay $8 for the Luck-E-Strikes, they are $4 baits MAX...not worth it. Quote
Basseditor Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 I use the Bomber Long A most of the time. Second is Rogue. 2 Quote

je1946 Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Rapala x raps, BPS XPS pro series, Lucky Strike RC, I like the old Rebels, gotta tweak em a little with suspend dots or solder on the trebels, but if u can get em right the bass love em. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted January 6, 2013 Super User Posted January 6, 2013 X2 on the H2O baits from Academy, every H2O bait I've tried perform very well, and the price is outstanding. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 6, 2013 Global Moderator Posted January 6, 2013 Luck E Strike and Excaliber Erratic shad are my two favorite cheaper jerkbaits. The X rap is a good bait too but just doesn't seem to produce as well as other jerkbaits for me. Quote
wisconsin heat Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 I had a lot of luck with the Spro Mcstick 95 this fall, a few bass every trip. Oh, and the pike liked it too Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted January 6, 2013 Super User Posted January 6, 2013 Rapala husky jerk. 1 Quote
shootermcbob Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 I have just started fishing with jerkbaits. That said, I caught the most fish on a pearl Rick Clunn lucky strike jerkbait, closely followed by a bone colored Eeratic shad jerkbait. Quote
BassThumb Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 I have caught more fish on the XRap than with any other jerkbait. Quote
Matthew Veillion Posted January 6, 2013 Author Posted January 6, 2013 Im going to cabelas today and im going to pick up a few luck e strike rc stx jekrks Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted January 6, 2013 Super User Posted January 6, 2013 Why dont you think the LS is a $8 bait? Just courious... For me it's the overall quality of the bait. I don't like the hooks, saw one in the package that had a broken hook and, including the RC cranks, I've seen alot of shorty manufacturing...off center line tie, off aligned hooks, cracks in the body and bill. I just don't think the quality is there compared to others at that price, they're almost the same price as an X-rap and are far behind them in quality. Quote
thehooligan Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Yozuri Pins minnow is the best jerkbait ive ever used followed by the xrap. I think the pointer is a great bait but overrated... Quote
VABassin'14 Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 The Excaliber Erratic Shads are great lures for the price. Hard bodied jerk baits are my absolute favorite kind of lures to throw and I have never spent over $10 on any of them. The Erratic Shads have great action and run true straight out of the box. Get a couple of them and you will be pleased with how well they perform. I am not a fan of X-Raps just because I have never done well with them but I know people who absolutely love them as well. There are definitely good options out there without have to spend the big bucks on jerk baits, but recommend the Excaliber Erratic Shad. Quote
Super User MCS Posted January 7, 2013 Super User Posted January 7, 2013 Diawa DB Minnow, Bomber Long A Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted January 7, 2013 Super User Posted January 7, 2013 I like the XCalibur EEratic Shad, it's a great bait for the money. The H20 baits are also really nice and the price can't be beat. The only thing about their jerkbaits is the only one that suspends is the deep diving model. The 2 shallow jerkbaits are floaters. You might also check out the new Strike King KVD jerkbaits. I haven't used or even bought one yet but they look awesome. The color patterns are outstanding and it comes in 2 sizes. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 9, 2013 Super User Posted January 9, 2013 Over the years, the Smithwick Rogue has been my biggest producer. 1 Quote
