Small tackle box for kids?

Need a small box for my grandsons, 7 and 11. Something that the latch won't fly open if accidentally touched. Cheapies at Wallyworld looked like they could easily open when you didn't want them to.

Any suggestions?

Don't buy a cheap tackle box, buy a decent tackle box.  Buy one llike you were buying one for yourself, only get the appropriate size.    Same goes for rods, reels and other fishing stuff for kids.  There is quality, value priced tackle out there. 

Think about the message you're sending, "  Fishing is a sport, a pastime, an endeavor you can pursue your entire lifetime, so we'll start you out with something that is cheap, plastic and breaks easily"

I could go on and on and on about the fallacies inherent in buying cheap fishing tackle for kids, but that would turn into a rant and so I won't.

My son has been using a fishing vest w/ small boxes and a tackle wrap for soft plastics. The vest holds everything he needs and it stays on him, so he'll never leave it anyhere. Look at Bass Pro Shops, they have the small boxes w. excellent latches. I use these myself, their tackle wraps are good also. He's been using this set up since he was 10. He'll take it to the local lake with him and if he comes on the boat, he justs throws the whole thing in a compartment.

i have the exact same one that pgersumky shows their. I found it in my step mothers shed. It was her fathers and he got it brand new. Holds a great amount of stuff but it small enough that a kid can carry it with no problems. I highly recommend it!

Why not a small, soft sided tackle box with zippers.  No chance of it coming unlatched unless it's not zipped. You can add boxes or take away as needed.  Just a thought...

They shouldn't have any problem with the single trays ones like have been shown.

I just bought my 5 year old nephew a Plano 4450 at Walmart for $14. It came with 2 3500 organizers that I used for floats and plastic croppie lures, and I bought a third for hooks, weights and hooked lures.

This is basically just a smaller version of my Plano box that I carry on my boat, so it's fun for him to have a tackle box just like "Uncle Bobby". And when we're getting ready for the fishing trip, I can just take out the organizer with the hooks out and stash them in my bag until we're on the boat. This way he can "help" by organizing his own tackle, without me having to fear him sticking a hook in himself (or the dog, Aunt Amber, the neighbor's cat... for a five year old, the options are endless). At 7 and 11 this is probably less of a concern for your grandkids.

What I liked most about the bag was it has zippers AND velcro keeping it closed, and the 3500s are latched themselves, so much less chance of accidental spills.  Also there's velcro on the back that he can strap to his bike when he's fishing with his dad in their neighborhood creek, and when he outgrows it for a bigger bass bag, he can still use that one to hold his individual bags of plastics.

I remember when I was young, my dad bought me a bookbag with plano boxes in it. I would carry it around wherever I go, and can pack a lunch with it as well.
