SWH Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I got for christmas about 100 dollars worth of giftcards to bass pro shops. I just caught the Bass fishing fever this past year. I only have a couple of crank baits, a bunch of plastic worms (senko's and trick sticks) and a few flukes. I am looking for some good ideas to expand my very narrow selection of baits. To give you an idea i am just able to fish from the shoreline and fish local ponds nothing to big. I would guess the biggest pond is maybe 10 - 15 acres. Not very good at guessing but that gives an idea as to what i am fishing. Any help would be great before i go on basspro.com and get some new baits. Thanks in advance. Quote
nickw234 Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I'd get a couple spinnerbaits. I like war eagle and the booyah vibra-flex. Quote
Super User Marty Posted March 18, 2010 Super User Posted March 18, 2010 I agree with the previous poster that you should add spinnerbaits. Also, it may be just my personal preference, but I'd consider topwaters a necessity. But just because you fish from the shore doesn't mean that you shouldn't have a good lure assortment. Lures that work from boats work from shore as well. You should match your lures to the conditions you face. Just one obvious example would be if you fish heavily weeded waters, then lighten up on the crankbaits and get more stuff that can be weedless, like soft plastics and topwaters. Good luck. I've caught some of my best bass while on the bank. Quote
SWH Posted March 18, 2010 Author Posted March 18, 2010 Thanks Marty and Nick.... Everyone keep the opinions coming i really appreciate it. As for the veggitation and such most of the ponds have some Milfoil, and clear to stained water. Their is one pond that i have not had any success on that is chocked in the summer with Lillypads. Otherwise its sand, fallen trees here and their and some cattails here and their. Thanks again Quote
Wild Bill [NY] Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Please dismiss the following rantings as those of a deranged topwater-junkie....[LOL] This coming summer, I will have been playing with these little green fish for fifty years with lures only. Hmm, come to think of it, maybe they have been playing with me...{LOL} Get yourself a 'Super Spook Jr' in Albino... Learn to 'walk the dawg' with this. Get yourself a 'Chug Bug' in color 'shad'...... Try different cadences with this lure, and also the Spook JR, until you see what the fish want that day. Get a 5/8 ounce sized Jitterbug in BLACK. You will thank me over and over for this if you use it at night, moving it steadily but as slow as you can to keep it doing that "Blub, blub, blub, blub" noise, making a wake on top with it. It works better for me now, than fifty years ago when I started using it. *Change the factory treble-hooks to Owner st41 trebles in size 1/0{far better hookup rates will occur then}. You need a small straight-bladed screwdriver to do this Get some Zoom "Horny Toads" in the watermelon/black flakes, and also the two-tone, brown over white ones. Buzz then on top of the water in weeds or on weedline edges, or open-water lanes in the weed. Get some Heavy-wire EWG in size 4/0 to fish the above mentioned Horny Toads on. Get a SnagProof "Bobby's Perfect Frog" in color BLACK. Get another that is all White, or has a white belly, at least. Get some Zoom "Super Flukes" in white-pearl color. {Use above EWG hooks for those , too}. Get some 2/0 Gamakatsu or Owner "Octopus" hooks [not the circle hooks]. Use these to nose-hook the Super Fluke in open water conditions for great hookup rates. Have fun with these lures. They ALL bring me great fun, and I have all of them rigged on most trips Quote
