Depends on make, model, lure rating and its characteristics. I have a BPS Pro Series Crappie rod that is 9' Light powered but feels more powerful (backbone) than my Med-Lt St Croix Avid 8' rod. Ive caught plenty of bass with the BPS rod even out of somewhat thick weeds.

It depends on how you plan to use it. Seems like a long rod for drop shotting. I prefer a 6'10" ML/Fast action tip with 6lb flouro,. For bulkier lures and heavier line I go with a 7' MH/Xtra Fast action tip, for this I'll use 10lb braid to an 8-10lb flouro leader.
