Super User Sam Posted January 4, 2013 Super User Posted January 4, 2013 News just reported this morning that there is going to be a $100,000,000 shopping center built adjacent to the Bass Pro Shop off I-95's exit 89 north of Richmond, Virginia. Completion will take about a year. I hope VDOT improves that exit as it is dangerous at this time with the truckers going in and out of the truck stop on the east side of the interstate and mixing withthe private passenger autos and trucks. Those ramps and the Lewistown Road intersection is going to become a hazard to safe driving. I will probably exit at the Atlee-Elmont exit (#86 onto Sliding Hill Road) heading to Green Top and then take a right at the traffic signal onto Lakeridge Road and head to BPS to avoid the construction. With BPS as a major anchor this area will be booming with tourists and locals looking for good deals. If you are heading to BPS later this year be congnizant of the construction and the accompanying traffic problems and consider taking other roads to the store. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted January 4, 2013 Super User Posted January 4, 2013 Wow. Yeah, that's a hairy exit up there. Though I normally hit the Hampton BPS, I've had to run up to Richmond several times for products I just couldn't wait to get delivered down to Hampton. While I'd like to say I can't imagine VDOT NOT improving the exit, I know VDOT all too well. Why ruin a perfectly hazardous exit...I mean, c'mon.</sarcasm> Like I-95 needs any more construction on or near it...anywhere. Ever again. But thanks for the head's up. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted January 4, 2013 Super User Posted January 4, 2013 They just did a bunch of work to that exit so i wouldn't be surprised if they did nothing. That place is going to be like another short pump with traffic..... Good thing my local store has almost everything i need. Quote
Bigbarge50 Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 Yeah they have all the roads and utilities basically set up to make whatever monument to consumerism they want there. That exit is sketchy enough, sure it will remain that way for some time. Driving home from FL for the holidays I wanted to stop in to see the new green top but they were closed (it was new years day) but BPS was open and hoping with people all over, and they did not have a sale going or anything. Super User LgMouthGambler Posted January 6, 2013 Super User Posted January 6, 2013 You could just take I95 S down here and get off at Griffin Rd, lol. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted January 8, 2013 Super User Posted January 8, 2013 Thanks for the heads up, that exit is a little hairy, but since they may or may not construct on it, i'll just play it safe and take the construction free exit #86 Quote
