Hey guys, looking for a good crankbait rod, and from what I have gathered, I should use a fiberglass rod for my crankbaits. I am having a hard time figuring out a good, light weight, fiberglass rod. I am looking for something in the 100$ - 150$ range. It needs to be light weight and sensitive yet strong. I have never used a fiberglass rod so I dont know what to expect. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Matt

I'm not really a fan of fiberglass crankbait rods mainly due to the lack of sensitivity.  I use a St.Croix Avid Crankbait which is graphite but has a moderate action which basically acts like  fiberglass but has all the sensitivity and lightweightness in the world.  Also not many companies produce fiberglass rods anymore but if your deadset on Fiberglass, St.Croix has 2 of them in their Mojo Bass lineup.

Thanks for the help. Honestly, I am not dead set on a fiberglass rod, but I have read that they are really good for crankbait rods. I have read that they are very sensitive so I dont know. I was going to get an Abu Garcia Vertias which is what most of my other rods are, but then I read that fiberglass is the way to go. So right now I am just confused...lol... Thanks for the input though

I too was looking for a new cranking rod a few weeks ago, something with a little more "range" than my St Croix LTB 7'10" "magnum cranker", which is a great rod for deep divers, but kind of overkill for everything else. I had my mind made up on the 7'4" Mojo M glass rod, but once I got to the store and got my hands on it, and the 7' MH/Mod graphite Mojo cranking rod, I went with the graphite. I have yet to fish with the rod, so we shall see if I made the right choice, but after cranking with graphite, I felt going to glass was not for me after all. And FWIW , at least as far as the magnum cranker is concerned I am glad I went with graphite on that too, has all the feel you could ever want in a cranking rod, with the parabolic action of a glass. I toyed with getting rid of it in a "downsize the rod collection" brain cramp, but am glad I did not.

I think that the Powell Diesel Glass rod will fit your needs. It is $70 and is super light (3 oz). Go check it out on tackle warehouse.

I too was after a glass rod but after doing the research went graphite with the St. Croix Premier Crankbait Rod 6'6" MH/M (Medium Power was too whippy). I haven't had a chance to use it yet as it's winter in the Midwest, but it is easily one of the highest reviewed rods out there. For instance, the BPS site has 29 reviews (28 5-star and 1 4-star). Plenty of praise other places, too.

It may not mean much, but it looks and feels great in-hand, plus a 5-year warranty to boot!

If a warranty is important to you then I would recommend looking at a Shimano rod, lifetime over the counter, doesn't get any better. No paying for shipping or time lost. The warranty and performance is why I went that route. For 60 bucks you can get a Convergence crankbait rod, its a graphite composite and a lifetime warranty. I really like mine and am replacing my BPS Crankin Sticks as needed with them.

You can pick up a kistler micro mag fiberglass crankbait right now for $100 on special. It's normally like $180. I have one but I've only used it a few times but I like it so far. I landed plenty of pickerel one day on a kvd 2.5 and it was great. 7' mh moderate

Lamiglas Excel XL 705G. Made in the USA with a lifetime warranty. Also happens to be 20% off for 2 more days at THUT's online sale, which makes it one heck of a rod for a grand total of $80!

I bought a dawia ballistic cranking rod when they first came out. Not super sensitive but it is a great glass rod. I own mostly Powells and Castawys but i can honestly say that would buy another ...just dont need anymore.

I also have a veritas 7'M crank rod. It is not glass but it is a great rod for cranking. It is sensitive and light...very light.

Both rods are 100

My Shimano Clarus Jig & Worm rod got broken. I went to the local store but they didn't have the same one. They told me I can pick something of equivalent value. I have other rod somewhat similar to the one got broken and I was looking to buy cranking rod, so I picked the cranking one. I haven't fished with it yet, but it does feel good and power & action feels just right. It is very light weight. The retail is $90. I did have to pay for $15 shipping even if it was over the counter exchange though. (But I don't mind. BPS refused to replace.)
