Hollisray Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I am in the process of purchasing a tackle bag system just for soft plastics. I have allways kept these items in there factory packaging. I am wanting to remove theme and organize theme in my new tackle bag. The question i have is will they be ok in the plano boxes i am going to use? Quote
BassnChris Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I prefer a plastics/worm binder. I still leave them in their original packaging inside the binder bags. That way I know exactly what I have. Thats just me. 1 Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted January 4, 2013 Super User Posted January 4, 2013 I put all the soft plastics in a gallon size freezer Ziploc bag, in their original packages. Just use different gal bags for different style plastics, and label them with a Sharpie. 2 Quote
Bass Junkie Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I've never had an issue with storing soft plastics in Plano boxes, except for them staining the plastic a bit (Red Shad and some GYCB colors). But it hasn't effected the performance of either the boxes or the baits. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 4, 2013 Super User Posted January 4, 2013 I think for the first 5 years I owned my boat, no two years in a row did I have the same plastics storage and orginization system. I have done the worm binders, the in there original bags in ziplock bags, loose in plano boxes, and a couple others I can' t even remember. Finally the last 2-3 years I have settled on a system that works, and works well for me. I bought a couple of the deep, one compartment, plano 3700's. Each one is decicated to a "style" of baits. I have one for flipping baits/jig trailers, one for dropshot/small stuff, and one for senkos/flukes/worms. I keep several packs of my most used baits in each box and restock out of a huge rubbermaid tote full of all the stuff I use that I keep at home. When I use up a bag of whatever, the empty bag goes in my pants or coat pocket, so I know when I get home............oh yeah, better go get a couple bags of X out of the tote for next time. And I keep a list of what is in the tote on a clipboard next to the tote and mark off what I took out, so the next time I make a trip or order to a tackle store I replace it if I am running low. How ever you want to store your plastics is up to you, just giving you an idea of how I do it, incase it might help. 1 Quote

tnbassfisher Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I usually carry two binders full with me, but I am currently in the process of trying to break them up into different categories by when and where I will want to use these. Because I am fishing out of a kayak, I am trying to carry a smaller amount of stuff with me each time I go. If I can break down what I want for each trip instead of trying to carry everything, I think it will make my time on the water much easier and more efficient. Quote
flipin4bass Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I've used just about every type of binder on the market and if binders are your storage of choice I don't think you can beat the Shimano Baraja Tackle Binder for quality. They cost more but they are buikt tough. However, if you need something easier to get into, the Plano 4807 speedbag is the way to go. I fish out of yak more than my boat and I needed something easy to store and get into and this bag works for me. I keep the baits in their original package and throw them into this bag. It's large enough to hold all the soft plastics I'll need for a day on the lake. Quote
tbone1993 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I have a Cabela's Fishing Utility Bag that I bought for ten bucks to use as a bag for impromptu trips where i did not want to carry my entire bag down to the water. That lasted all of a month and now it holds almost every bag of soft plastics i own from 10+ bags of senkos, to trailers, to zoom worms. A binder would be a nicer choice but I havent found one I like. A trapper keeper that zips up is something I plan on trying. Quote
CPBassFishing Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Got a bassmaster subscription? Next time you get a renewal thing, there is an option you an select for a free member bag. Perfect for holding bags of plastics. Quote

It is by far the best system that I have ever seen or used. I'm pretty sure those boxes were described as line storage boxes but they work for a lot of different things because they are so spacious. if I'm not mistaken I think I can fit around 25 bags of plastic in just 1 container. then I put that Plano box along with four others inside a tackle bag that I bought from Academy. Super User Bankbeater Posted January 4, 2013 Super User Posted January 4, 2013 I just use a box with the dividers removed. I roll up the factory bag and put it right in the box. 1 Quote
Super User Teal Posted January 4, 2013 Super User Posted January 4, 2013 I put all the soft plastics in a gallon size freezer Ziploc bag, in their original packages. Just use different gal bags for different style plastics, and label them with a Sharpie. If you don't have a boat compartment to put them in, grab an old duffle bag. I do the same thing, put all of the like body bait bags in to one gal zip bag and label it. It works great. Quote
tnriverluver Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 I have a Shimano binder that I purchased 15+ years ago and the baits go into very heavy duty ziplock type binders loose or in the original packages. This bag is FULL of baits some as old as the bag itself from where I had to give up fishing for ten years and they are as good as the day they were new. Highly recommend these bags if you can find one. They also have zippered mesh compartments inside to store your hooks, weights, etc. Quote
dumfish Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I just found some zip tool bags made by husky @ home depol. They are perfect for storing my soft plastics in their original bags. The bag size is about: 12"x 8" and only $3.00 a bag. Quote
jhoffman Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 The smaller containers you can buy at dollar general or walmart with a snap lid will hold 20-30 bags in their original bags for like five bucks. I actually took a plano spinnerbait box and took all the dividers out of it too for soft plastics. My spinnerbait box is a regular 3700, I only keep about a dozen on hand and Im not sure why that many cause I dont hardly fish them. Quote
Crookedneck Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 I grabbed (stole) a small 8"x14"ish plastic tote from my wife. I keep the plastics in there own bags. Can fit probably 30-40 bags in it. Quote
mayer74 Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 I have a plano elite speed bag for soft plastics that holds about 20 bags. I don't need more with me when I'm out. It's small enough to fit nicely In my backpack too. As for home? I don't have a standard system yet. Working on that. Quote
hoosierbass07 Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 When I started fishing last year I bought a soft tackle bag and started putting whole bags of soft plastics in it. After a while that thing got super heavy! Then I downsized and only took six packs of soft plastics in it. Then I got a kayak so I started loading up my tackle bag with more soft plastics so I could carry them around with me on the kayak. Now I've realized I hardly dig through my bag and put on different soft plastics. Now I'm switching to put my soft plastics in Flambeau Model 4007 cases. There are six slots in the case. So with two cases that means I will have twelve slots to put in different soft plastics individually. That should be enough. I also have a Plano box with hard baits. So two cases with soft plastics and one case with hard plastics and one small case with hooks and sinkers. Hopefully that will simplify things for me. Quote
youngangler274 Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 I literally just take whatever small fabric bag I can find. Such as a small cooler, or a small utility bag, anything that can hold a decent amount of plastics bags. I keep all the plastics in their original bag and I just dump the plastics in the cooler type delio. One of the medium gandermountain soft tackle boxes work well, they are on sale often and come with 3 plano style boxes. Quote
The Fisher Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 I use this. I put some small Plano boxes with tackle in the exterior storage pockets.
