Super User CWB Posted March 12, 2010 Super User Posted March 12, 2010 Another vote for the Slug-Go. It was the only bait I threw for a few years. Quote
Super User Marty Posted March 13, 2010 Super User Posted March 13, 2010 I am shocked that no one has mentioned the good old reliable 7 inch Berkley Power worm. It's a great lure, but some may not consider it underrated because it hasn't dropped off the radar like most of the other lures mentioned. It's highly rated in my book! Quote
moby bass Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 I just picked up another pack of 6" white Slug-gos today. I have a big variety of them. The key to fishing them, you have to let the fish have it for a count of 2 and set the hook on 3. I'd like to try some of the 9" but I can only find them in rainbow. Don't know where I'd get any replacement hooks either. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted March 13, 2010 Super User Posted March 13, 2010 The Strike King 4" elaztech finesse worm. They are darn near indestructible, and absolutely impossible to impale on a barbed holder. But, I've solved that problem. Heat a safety pin in a candle flame and pierce the head along the centerline to a depth of about an inch. It can then be penetrated by the barbed bait holder. A drop of crazy glue, and it's there to stay. A word of caution, do not store them with other types of plastics. They will disintegrate. Indeed! Not only will they disintegrate, but will destroy every plastic product they contact. The end result is a non-salvageable glop of melted plastic. I also found out the hard way that some plastic storage bins are also off limits, it must be "worm-proof" plastic. It's best to leave them in their original packets, then they can be stored anywhere. As Rhino will tell you, they're well worth the bother Roger Quote
bugman Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 One more which doesn't get much publicity - the Fat Ika! The Fat Ika may get talked about in this forum (thanks to RW) but just about any place I go most fishermen have no idea what a Fat Ika is. Quote
Primus Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 yamamoto double tail hula grub...pitch it...hop it...swim it... That's a great choice and it's a fish catching machine, one of my all time favorite soft plastics. Quote

luvNchatterbait Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 COME ON GUYS!!!! ur forgetting the best soft plastic ever made.........MANNS JELLY WORM, scuppernong or grape ;D Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted March 15, 2010 Super User Posted March 15, 2010 I really love sluggos, and the sluggo el salto as well. IMO the most underrated soft plastic is a centipede though. When the bite is super tough or the fish spooky, a light carolina rig or split shot rig with a 4" zoom centipede will get you a few bites. Quote

I once caught a 10lber on a plum colored Luck e Strike 4 inch french fry. I was fishing on a golf course pond down in Naples, Florida. To this day,it still stands as my PB. SimonDM17 Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I'd have to agree with the ElazTech 4" worm, or perhaps their Z-Too. It had a tendency to run a little crooked and misbehave, but with a 3/32 oz. weighted gammie, about 2/3rds of them had a fantastic action; walk-the-dog underwater, wide or tight, and then an amazing wobble on the vertical fall. plus they were close to indestructible, I had one bait on for over 30 fish. Next to that, I'd have to say the Yum Craw Papi. It's a huge favorite of mine, but I've never seen anyone else use it. Great clear-water bait on a light jighead. Quote
bigfruits Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 love the 2.75" papi on 1/4oz bitsy bug jigs. bass do too. Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 No doubt in my mind, Lake Fork Tackle Live Magic Shad 5.5... Quote

Regards, hookset on 3 Centipedes are one of my go to baits when the fish are just lockjawed. My favorite color is watermelonseed but the pinkish, purplish hues of the luck e strike french fries are good too. In shallow water when the cover isn't too thick you can fish pedes weightless on 6 - 8 pound test. That's my ultra finesse technique. Quote
dale Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 How about the old Do Nothing Worm was great c-rig bait Quote
