EwadeG15 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I have many shimano reels and many abu garcia revo reels. It's a new year and I'm looking to buy one new reel for now. I'm leaning towards the revo generation 3 stx or premier. I have heard mixed reviews about both reels so It is hard for me to decide. So, to people out there with experience with these reels... if you all could enlighten me with some information and opinions, it would be much appreciated. Quote
Kragar Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I just received a revo 3 stx for xmas. I have always used spinning reels and the revo is my first baitcasting reel and I am loving it. It has been really easy to set up and I have only had 2 or 3 bad backlashes. I tried a friend's baitcaster while he was looking at my setup and I was hating life. With being new to baitcasters, I feel it is a good reel. Quote
Phranchise1213 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 when in doubt...get a shimano a chronarch will run ya about the same amount Quote
jeb2 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I've been fishing a Gen3 STX for several months now. I've also been paying close attention to the reviews on the Gen3's. Not much out there about the Premier yet, but the STX has gotten very positive reviews so far. The only negative or mixed things I've read about them is from folks who don't actually own/fish them. Mine has been great so far, and I'd for sure recommend it. I fish it along side of a few Shimano reels (core, curado, calais DC) and they are all good reels. But there is no better bang for your buck on the market right now than the Gen3 STX, IMO. 1 Quote
Quillback Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I've owned a Gen 3 STX since this fall, fished it a lot, and I'm impressed with it given it's price point. Good value in my opinion. I think it compares favorably to any other brand in that price range. Quote
NBR Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I probably have one of almost every maker and frankly I don't see much difference in them. They all require some learning after using spinning gear and one brand might out last another but that has not been my experience. Quote
The Next KVD Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I'd rather get a Chronarch but th gen 3 STX in that 8.1:1 or something like that has me intriqued. Thats some serious line recovery at 35 IPT!!!! Quote
Super User Teal Posted January 3, 2013 Super User Posted January 3, 2013 I'm partial, but I invite you to try a Lews tournament pro. It willl save you a little money and they are awesome reels. I fish mostly lews now. Not taking away from Chronarch or the Revo. I have fished, with chronarchs and they are wonderful. I fished with the gen 2 premiers and they are also great reels. Lews also makes two more reels in the 250 to 300 range but I have not used them. Quote

tbone1993 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I am putting in order in for a lews tournament pro in the next coming week. I was planning on getting an STX because i love how it feels but I have a deal on a lews at the moment so i am taking advantage of it. Quote

You won't be upset by your choice and if you are I'll buy it from you as long as it's a LH model. I have all Lews reels except for my BPS PQ that I'm trying to sell and replace with another Lews. I have a tournament pro,BB1Z,2 regular tournament models, and one tournament mg which was my only Lews option at the time for a low ratio LH model or it'd be a BB1. I had a regular speed spool also but sold it to a friend since he liked it so much. The Tp is the best value for your money at $160 shipped Quote

shimmy Posted January 5, 2013 Posted January 5, 2013 After talking with many guys on this forum, i bought the LEWS TP a little while back and it really is everything that people say it is. Just read the TW reviews in addition and the reel is just something else. I cast it outside on the grass just so i can feel the buttery smooth retrieve. Just an unbelievable reel. Quote
