Super User rippin-lips Posted February 16, 2013 Super User Posted February 16, 2013 It was a legend doing what he does best. I enjoyed watching the spanking. The young guns never had a chance! He definetly put on a clinic yesterday. I'd of liked to see Ish do a lot better. Quote
ChrisAW Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 It was the Molix Lover. Â In the lessons show last week he talked about it. Â No, he was throwing a chatterbait. He was just pushing his sponsor in the Lessons show. He had a silver bladed black and blue chatterbait with a Zoom craw of some sort. Quote

On the bass resource home page one of the articles in the slide is Ike talking about getting sponsors.  He totally pimped the Molix and used a normal chatter. Quote

All these big name sponsors have baits that work or don't at times, and most of them know that. As long as they don't push another brand, they don't care. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted February 16, 2013 Super User Posted February 16, 2013 I believe over all it was an entertaining event to watch and I'm already looking forward to the next one.  I will say however, that I am really hoping that whatever body of water they choose to hold the next one on - Please select one Completely Void of DOCKS.  A-Jay 2 Quote

I know they had to fish where the fish were but I could go the rest of the year without seeing another show about dock fishing and be a happy man. 1 Quote
Jay Ell Gee Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 A-Jay will probably shun me for life for this comment, but I rather enjoy watching flipping and pitching. Then again, I primarily river fish in Louisiana, so pitching docks and tossing frogs are really staples for me in any given part of the year. Â Overall, I think Denny is a classy kind of guy. He never has anything bad to say about anyone, and he is flat out fun to watch. I particularly appreciated his modesty during the finals as well as his comments day one about Ike slamming fish. 2 Quote

Lucky Craft Man Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 Actually, Chautauqua does have it all (docks, shallow and deep weed edges, drop offs, rock points, etc. along with nice Smallmouth and Largemouth), but because of the algy bloom, that limited these guys. I would have loved to have seen this tournament held on Chautauqua in July when all those other patterns could have come into play. Overall, I was really pleased with it and even though the ending was very anticlimactic, I was very satisfied with the results. 1 Quote
War Eagle 44 Posted February 16, 2013 Posted February 16, 2013 I thought I read somewhere that the next event is on a small lake in Florida. Anyone else hear that? Anyway I love flipping and pitching so it didn't bother me to watch them fish all those docks over and over. Denny really did put on a show, wow. Quote

I apologize, I have been up since 4 am for work this morning getting ready for the spring fishing classic sale next week.  I follow what you are saying now and I do agree for the most part... perhaps some anglers draw a section of the area that forces them to fish deep water, ledges, or perhaps submerged timber fields. That would be interesting. It would also force the top anglers out of their normal elements to see how well they could really complete.  I like it. 1 Quote

Yes I have heard the next one is in Florida. I just hope it's not one of those deals where they spend their time punching weed mats with 50 Lb. braid and one ounce weights. You know, one of those deals where every time they get a bass on, it gets totally encased in weeds and can't fight or jump. They drag in a big ball of weeds and somewhere inside the weed ball is a hidden bass. This to me would be much worse than watching a NY dock fishing dinkfest, LOL. Well I LOVE to flip/punch heavy grass so this is exactly the type of tournament I was looking for but I understand that not everyone likes this style of fishing. So maybe it will be a little flip fishing and a little of something else that other guys want to watch. Either way I'm looking forward to it and I hope everyone here enjoys it as well. Quote
War Eagle 44 Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 I'm thinking it said early April. Quote
Jell0b0y Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Seen a commercial for it and it starts April 4th. Quote
gripnrip Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_123/everstart-toledo-bend-21613.html And he's still fishing the docks and winning! Quote
shootermcbob Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 Wow, just watched the extended coverage of round 1 of sudden death. A few random thoughts: Denny Brauer still has it. I was surprised Jason Quinn did so well flipping docks Kreit..what a whiney basket case he is. I have always liked him on different shows (Zona's) and others but I was really surprised how negative he is. Â I really do enjoy this format Quote
prjavelin Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 yup when things went south kriet went into bitchy mode. he is a great angler, he did well on the challenge cup but KVD is inside his head no doubt about it. Â I didnt like Hackney before but little by little he has won me over. I was really happy for brauer he is the man when it comes to docks. Quote
Shoop05 Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 I understand that Tommy Biffle is a legend of the sport, but he seems like a whiner to me. He never has anything positive to say about anyone other than himself, and nothing is EVER his fault. Â That's why I like Brauer and Grigsby. Constant professionals and gentleman. Quote
RyneB Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 i thought Ish came off kind of arrogent. I have always liked him, but he had little comments that bothered me. The ref in his boat said "Grigsby caught another one" and he said something about how Shaw was probably explaining into extreme detail how he caught it. Then he called Shaw a poacher and said hed buzz every dock on his way out. Just kind of rubbed me the wrong way. It was awesome to see DB dominate, i loved the video editing. Theyd show someone whining or missing a fish and then have a cut of DB crossing the eyes on a 3 lber. I love this format as well. You can almost see the panic hit the guys when they hear someones catching them. Quote
SudburyBasser Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 That's why I like Brauer and Grigsby. Constant professionals and gentleman.  I have heard that Denny Brauer can have a temper when he believes -- rightly or wrongly -- that another fisher is infringing on his space. That said, I suppose when a check is on the line you can be a bit prickly about that sort of thing.  i thought Ish came off kind of arrogent. He was really turning into a bit of a whiner. That said, he seemed in better spirits in the third round and cut out the snarky chatter. His comment about Grigsby explaining stuff in detail did rub me the wrong way. Grigsby seems to be universally well-liked in the tour so I thought it a bit out of line for him to toss that comment out. Quote

I understand there is a huge check on the line, but at the same time some guys whine and complain alot more than others. The funny thing about Ish making that comment, is that Shaw has probably forgotten more about fishing than Ish has learned. I just think that the guys that have been around that long deserve a few extra seconds explaining techniques. Quote
