Super User ww2farmer Posted January 2, 2013 Super User Posted January 2, 2013 I enjoyed it, but man it really bummed me out seeing them fish my kind of water while I wait for the lake to freeze. They were fishing almost exaclty the same way I would fish in the late summer in that nasty green water, but my lake, about and hour or so to the east has a lot more grass. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted January 2, 2013 Super User Posted January 2, 2013 Thanks for that. These shows really bum me out. Everything around me is hard water for another few months 2 Quote
ChrisAW Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Just started watching the first Elimination Round. Cant wait for more. Messing with my tackle while I watch. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 2, 2013 Super User Posted January 2, 2013 I really like the format and the coverage. I like the way the anglers discuss what they are doing and why. This kind of coverage is everything the Classic should be but is Not. A-Jay 5 Quote
CoBass Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 I watched it on the Outdoor Channel yesterday during the day, and it will be on again tomorrow evening. I like the new fish handling rules. Two minute penalty if the fish touches the carpet of the boat, and two minutes if the fish is thrown back into the water from above the gunnel. Good to see them promoting healthy release techniques. 2 Quote
ranger487 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Loved the show especially since I have spent alout of time there being from Ohio its not often we get to see shows on lakes we fish. Mark Quote
Brian Needham Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Ike, God bless 'em, love 'em or hate 'em....the man has passion. also, wonder why they are using those cheap scales? Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 3, 2013 Super User Posted January 3, 2013 Ike, God bless 'em, love 'em or hate 'em....the man has passion. also, wonder why they are using those cheap scales? I think it was the Berkley model - usually goes for 40-50 bucks. Thought it might be because they were a sponsor but they don't appear on the sponsor list. Either way, the digital model is an improvement over last seasons deal. A-Jay Quote
Brian Needham Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 A Jay , you probably right.......I had one that look just like it (cant remember brand) and it was horrible, you could weigh a fish twice and be 1/2 pound difference ,LOL, and it was much cheaper than those.. I bet the guys griped about the "guessing" that went on with the bogas. The more I watch, the more GOOOD $$$$$ I would pay Ike to teach me to skip like that, I swear that man HAS TO BE the best skipper known to man. totally amazing(to me at least) Quote
ChrisAW Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Ike's my favorite angler, but I'd say Gerald Swindle is probably the best skip caster out there. I'd love to see him on this series, or to just expand in general so its not just these three elimination rounds and such. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 3, 2013 Super User Posted January 3, 2013 . The more I watch, the more GOOOD $$$$$ I would pay Ike to teach me to skip like that, I swear that man HAS TO BE the best skipper known to man. totally amazing(to me at least) Around here you either learn to skip like that or your just donating money. Time on the water and practice. Those guys are good, but I know a lot of local sticks around here that can do it as good if not better and make it look like they were born with that skill. In the first 15 mins of the show, when they showed Gary Klein just randomly casting to open spaces between docks with a squarebill and moving at a pretty good clip, even though he caught a few, I turned to my wife and said, " if he don't start putting that thing were he's afraid he won't get it back, or start picking those docks apart, he's done"...........LOL look who finished last. keith71 Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Biffles coach shorts are classic! lol The ole man can still fish his butt off. Quote
SudburyBasser Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 I believe it was Shaw Grigsby who said it best during the episode, love or hate him, you have to admire Ike. The thing with his shoe made me laugh out loud. Yes Mike, it is bigger than your shoe, ha ha. Quote
MrPeanut Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 yeah Ike can be over the top a bit at times, but it's hard to not notice his pure passion for fishing and his work ethic...i did laugh though when they were showing Hackney and you could still hear Ike screaming Also I don't know if it was because retirement was close or what but D Brauer looked like the most relaxed fisherman on the planet when they were showing him Quote
38 Super Fan Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 They have some lame rules, penalties for letting a fish touch the boats carpet? Promoting healthy catch and release is great, but that seems really over the top. 2 Quote
Brian Needham Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I know! They cant let the fish hit the carpet but they can hug and wipe the fish all over their jersey? 1 Quote
Aluma-Bass Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 What was ike throwing...think they said bladed jig but when they showed quick glance of it i didn't see the blade unless it was painted. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 4, 2013 Super User Posted January 4, 2013 What was ike throwing...think they said bladed jig but when they showed quick glance of it i didn't see the blade unless it was painted. Chatterbait is my guess. Looked like a Z Man Original. Or - it might have been something he pulled from between his toes when his shoe fell off . . . A-Jay 2 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 4, 2013 Super User Posted January 4, 2013 I know! They cant let the fish hit the carpet but they can hug and wipe the fish all over their jersey? X2 ~ I especially enjoyed Denny Brauer's technique. "The Old Crotch Squeeze" looked effective enough but one might argue that a brief trip on the carpet might not be any more debilitating . . . lmoore Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I've always really admired Ike and his passion for the sport. That being said, I realized while I was watching that, if I was involved with the Elites, there would be several times a year when I would much rather give him a punch to the face than recieve an autograph. Still one of my favorite anglers though and an extremely talented fisherman. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted January 4, 2013 Super User Posted January 4, 2013 I've said this before - Ike is truly a very skilled and highly passionate competitive angler. I especially admire his abilities during any one of the numerous "How To Video's" found all over the web. He has a very natural and highly effective delivery while describing / demonstrating every topic he covers. But why this seemingly articulate middle aged man, chooses to relay his excitement during a fish catch, in the manner in which he does, will always be a mystery to me. Those antics do not match his otherwise Professional presentation. A-Jay 3 Quote
jignfule Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I also like the format, one of my favorite fishing shows. I share many of the views here on Ike. I can tolerate such actions in juveniles sometimes, but it just gets old and uncomfortable with Ike. Great talent though. Quote
PABASS Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I have family born and raised in Jersey and lets just say Ike and them are a loud bunch when something good happens, its so great to have an east coaster kick some butt, and while I don't like his loudness he is playing mind games and it works. Also looked like a chatter bait to me and at the end of the segment he explained what pattern he was using. Good show and I want more!!! Quote
ranger487 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I was realy surprised how much more the inline version gave you than the TV. Quote
