swmofisher Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 Bought a 7' M Browning Hi Power Spinning rod and a Pflueger Supreme MG reel today with 20lb. Kanzen and 8lb. Fluorocarbon. Tied alot of joining knots but I have a question.... how many of you wrap the braid around the leader or wrap the leader around the braid? They both seemed strong to me but which is strongest? Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted January 2, 2013 Super User Posted January 2, 2013 Google the alberto knot, it's what I use. The only time this knot has ever failed me is when I did a poor job tying it. With this knot you wrap the braid around the fluoro. I don't often tie 20lb braid to 8lb fluoro, but I have, and it's been fine just make sure you have the drag set properly, and don't use it on a stiff powerfull rod. A rod with a little give in the tip will protect the knot and leader from any shock on the hook set, as will the reels drag when set right. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted January 2, 2013 Super User Posted January 2, 2013 Ditto to ww2farmer. I will use the Albright, the Modified Albright (aka Alberto, I believe), and lastly I will use Uni to Uni. Albright is the tiniest, next the modified. Super strong. Tied them enough I can do 'em in high winds on the water. Quote
swmofisher Posted January 2, 2013 Author Posted January 2, 2013 I've looked at a lot of knots and I can tie alot. I wasn't specific enough with my quesrion.... Do you wrap the braid or leader around the other when making albrights and knots like it. Does it matter which is wrapped I just don't want the braid to cut the leader Quote

ClackerBuzz Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 wrap the braid around the fluoro. the braid is pliable and can be easily wrapped. it woundn't make sense to try and bend the fluoro around braid. that would be like trying to wrap a coat hanger around a shoelace. Quote
Super User LgMouthGambler Posted January 2, 2013 Super User Posted January 2, 2013 U the leader, wrap the braid. Quote
swmofisher Posted January 3, 2013 Author Posted January 3, 2013 Thanks for the comments. After testing knots breaking strengths I will be going with the uni to uni instead of the modified Albright Quote
Crookedneck Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Knot Wars app on my smart phone is awesome for teaching how to tie and listing breaking strength using different types of line.. Quote
