Topwaterspook Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I was leafing through my new 2013 master, BPS catalog and ran across a new item. It appears to be a good idea for those of us who do a considerable amount of bank fishing. It's a fishing backpack designed with us in mind. A certain Texas based company is also making a fishing fanny pack with padded sholder straps. These might be worth ckecking into. I just thought someone besides myself may find these of interest. Super User Crestliner2008 Posted January 1, 2013 Super User Posted January 1, 2013 I've tried a lot of different styles of fanny/back packs and find that when you are moving about (bank fishing) I feel just too restricted with the extra belts and weight. Instead I carry the back pack in one hand and the rod(s) in the other. Putting the pack down while I'm fishing leaves me a lot freer and less encumbered. JMO. 1 Quote

dumfish Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I like small to medium shoulder bags,over backpacks.I prefer to fish and change lures without having to remove something that I can't reach. I have the AZ8 for the boat and the AZ4 for the bank, by flambeau. Quote

Of course being Orvis, I keep getting asked if I fly fish. Not yet, I'd like to keep my wife around a little bit longer! I bank fish and try not to take everything including the kitchen sink out with me on each trip but have recently have been considering going a bit bigger. If I can't get a slightly bigger sling, I'll probably go with a shoulder bag. Quote

The more gear I put down on the ground is more gear I can accidently lose or leave behind. I try to keep it simple and more importantly, light weight. This is what I use. I use the a second pocket for packs of soft plastics and the third sleeve for my scale. leader, stank and a smaller tray for hooks, weights and other assorted terminal tackle. If I need more room I always have my cargo shorts pockets. The only drawback of this bag is that the strap is not padded. A fluffy towel remedies this. 1 Quote

They switched to another back pack last year and a lot of the marines gave him their old ones. He uses them for everything from hunting, fishing, traveling and so on. Quote

NC_Bass6 Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 i use an old jansport bookbag. i have 3 plano 3700 boxes. one with terminal tackle and 2 for hardbaits and jigs. i also use a plano soft plastics bag for my plastics. i carry two boxes ( have to mix ad match jigs and hard baits ) with and the plastics bag in the front pocket and pliers, scissors, leader line and other tools in the front two pockets. just find an old bookbag and take your time planning how to fit the most tackle in there while still retaining comfort. Broke bass fisherman Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 I use my old jansport as well. 2 3700's in the main with my hard baits, 2 3700's with soft and terminal tackle, big zip pocket has line, and my tackle for using live bait, small zip has all my tools. It works really well for me. One suggestion someone on this forum told me was using a cd case for your spinners/ buzz baits. Haven't gotten to that point yet but will probably do that soon. Quote

For fly fishing equipment it may be too big but for bass fishing tackle I think it's sized just right. I've been eyeing this waist pack that Cabela's has on sale. Haven't pulled the trigger yet due to trying to get over my fear of all things that look like a fanny pack! I also wonder about the ease of switching the bag around to the front to get in and out of it. Right now I can slide my sling around to the front and back with ease. Quote

That guide pack is big but the price tag is big too. I ordered one and it actually showed up today. It looks really nice and it really is big, should be able to hold a 3600 box and other goodies. That said though, Its pretty pricey. One other option.... This is what I was using, well until now. I am not a fan of the fanny pack thing either and I didnt want something that stuck out very far. So.... I got one of these and have been overall happy with it. I can carry a lot of stuff yet it still stays close to your body as to not catch on everything. Its awesome, i put one plano box in the laptop slot, all my plastics in the main bag, hook/weights/line goes in the front pocket. Has a lower pocket for pliers and lipgrip. Side pocket for knife, license, gloves, and other side for scale and tape measure. Absolutely love this bag. Quote

This serves three purposes, (1) it's my new bank fishing bag,(2) it's a great way to reuse an item, (3) it's always a good thing to help the people of your community by recycling and reusing items found at the Goodwill!! PondBoss Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 Jansport from college, that bag sees more work now than it ever did back in the day. ha ha ha I can carry over 100 cranks in the main pouch, a couple of spools of line in the small pouch along with pliers and snips. Then I carry the bag they send you for signing up for BASS magazine for my plastics, guessing it holds around 20-25 packs in the big pouch and hooks and weights in the small pouch. Quote
