tylerwyp Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Going to make some jigs. Was wondering what kit to buy to make my skirts and what jig heads to buy for a finesse type jig. Thanks. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted December 31, 2012 Super User Posted December 31, 2012 Look at some of the sites like Janns and Barlows for heads or see if Cadman or Gman would make you some. For skirts you can't beat www.fishingskirts.com 1 Quote
cadman Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Hey Tyler, I used to fish Lake Michigan,. IL side and also the IL river. Fished a lot of northern lakes in IL including "The Chain". Anyway depends on where you are mainly fishing, the most luck I had on the rivers, is blk/red, blk/blu. grn pumpkin. Skirts you can buy from fishingskirt.com. Jigs, any swim jig will suffice as you can use them for pitching, swimming and bouncing on the bottom. If you are going to fish in the rocks for smallies, use a football head. Trailer I would use Netbait chunks or Rage tails. The colors are numerous. If you want to talk local fishing PM me I can give you some good tips on local waters, that is until the ice melts. Quote
RyneB Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 Cadman will hook you up with all the heads you need. I get all my skirts from fishingskirts. I get my tying wire from my local hobby store. I have white wire, brown wire, and black wire. I think they were all $1.59 each. I just match the wire to the skirt. Quote

I am confused how the skirts come on there. It says .25 but minimum 10. What does this give you? Quote

Tyler, What this means is this. You can not buy any leass than 10 tabs per pack. One jig uses roughly two tabs. One tab has 22 strands, so if you put on two tabs ( which is pretty common), you will have a jig with 44 strands of skirting material. So one package of 10 tabs is enough for 5 jigs and this will cost you $2.50 for a pack of 10 tabs. That is 25 cents for each tab. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted January 1, 2013 Posted January 1, 2013 I'd throw a round ball jig head, or a Blind Date with a weedgaurd if it was me. I make several sizes. Check them out. http://siebertoutdoors.com/ Quote

cadman Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 tbone, You can get your copper wire at Hobby Lobby, Jo Anne's or Michaels. It's in the craft section by the beading material. It comes in smaller spools and its around $2-$3 per roll. You can buy many colors, from red, green to copper. I use 22 Ga (.024) diameter thickness and use 2 or 3 wraps. You could go a little heavier however the heavier you go the harder it will be to twist and conceal. 2 Quote
RyneB Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 i use 20 ga wire, just because thats whats available. I get mine from Hobby Lobby. 1 Quote
RyneB Posted January 2, 2013 Posted January 2, 2013 The rolls arent huge, but there is definately enough there for you to tie A LOT of jigs. I have a role in white, black, and brown and my brown has the least. I say i have tied 50 or so jigs with it and have another 50 id say before its gone. Not a very costly expense at all. 1 Quote
