Gander mountain opened a store in Lafayette, In. recently and the fishing dept is terrible. They have four short rows of lures and that is it. The only crankbait they carry is rapalas. I was shocked when I saw this. The manager said that would be all they carried at any time of the year because this is gun country.????????? The part I just cant stand is when I asked the guy in the fishing dept if they had the new gen 3 revo he looked at me and said "I have never heard of that reel." I have not been back.

Typical of Gander. The one by me has a decent selection but its way over priced. They used to be good with returns but in the last couple years they changed their policy and I no longer shop there unless I have a gift card.

The Winchester VA Gander is great. Huge fishing section, and always a ton of bargain bins to sift through. I practically live there. Love it.

The different departments of Gander are determined by previous sales.

 

If fishing sales are down in your area, they expand the departments that are making the store money. I know it sucks, but that is how a large outdoor retailer works.

I am in Rockford, IL and the Gander here is just all around horrible. Fishing section is similar to the one mentioned from Lafayette, only a few short rows. It's really the only place in town to get any sort of tackle on short notice though. Outdoor recreation is not a hugely popular thing here (I am from Wisconsin and most gas stations carry a decent selection of tackle). I order online for tackle almost exclusively now unless I am in Gurnee, IL and can go to BPS.
