Diggy Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 Warning, may be confusing. I have a 6ft9 micro veritas that is being warrantied..was a gift I can replace it with the same micro rod or any of these models in regular guide format VRCM69-6 (1253049) 6' 9" 12 to 20 MH F ...original rod being warrantied, guide issue VRC70-7 (1205850) 7' 12 to 25 H XF 3/8 to 1 1/2 9+Tip D 7ft heavy VRC711-7 (1237124) 7' 11" 12 to 25 H MF 3/8 to 1 1/2 9+Tip C 7ft11 heavy flipping stick VRC73-6 (1205851) 7' 3" 12 to 20 MH F 1/4 to 1 9+Tip D 7ft3 mh VRC76-6 (1205852) 7' 6" 12 to 25 MH F 3/8 to 1 1/4 9+Tip E 7ft6 mh My dilemma is I already have a 7ft mh micro guide version veritas My other rods are mostly 7ft/mh of various brands, abu, bps, etc I just got a field & stream flipping stick that is 7FT6 mh telescopic, so not sure If I should just get the 7FT11 and return this one...did I need a flipping stick, no but I had gift cards and it was inexpensive. I wanted to do this technique more. The size maybe overkill since I have no boat, thats where you can advise. Maybe keep the cheap flipping rod and pick another veritas model Should I keep the 6ft9 since I have no rods that short, but I could always return the telescopic rod if the 7 ft 11 is picked and get a shorter rod ..confused yet? Now the longer mh rods are there 7ft3, 7ft 6.....I could make into a dedicated frof or Jig rod based on recs using one of these and my other 7ft micro veritas I wanted a 7ft6 heavy but they dont make one, just in 7ft...but is there any reason to get one since I have a7FT MH model HELP! Id like some input/advice/suggestions/ideas..thanks Quote

Id like some input/advice/suggestions/ideas..thanks Hey Diggy, (love the name) Anyways, It seems to me that you kind of already know what the problem is. You have a ton of 7 foot MH rods! Why not get yourself something in a different length and/or power so you can use it for different purposes? I think that you should get the 7'6'' MH rod. To me that rod would be able to fish frogs and jigs just fine. I feel like the 7'6'' veritas actually fishes more like a heavy and many of those longer rods can be broomsticks if you get them too stout. The veritas' seem to fish a little above their rating imho. I like the idea of adding a little variety to your situation. The 6'9'' rod would be good for fishing topwater and jerkbaits, but it sounds to me that you would be more intrigued with the 7'6'' model. The only 7'11'' rod that I feel does a good job is the Cumara. Very unique rod that one, but in your case the 7'6'' would be a good frog/jig rod. Just my thoughts on the situation. Quote
Diggy Posted December 29, 2012 Author Posted December 29, 2012 Thanks for that insight. Yeah for some reason I just default to a 7ft rod so I figure go up in height now, lol. Being that you recc that 7ft6 rod, I wonder if I should return the flipping rod. The fs rod is 7ft6 mh extra fast 1/4 to 1oz, the veritas is 3/8 to 1 1/4 or keep it since actions/weights are different. I was using a 7ft m cranking stick for top water, jerks, spinners, but if the flipping rod goes back I can get a 6ft6 f&s model for those duties or purchase one later. My problem is too many options, but your advice sounds like where my mind was going Current casting rods 7ft bps carbon lite micro mh 7ft veritas micro mh 7ft Berkley lightning rod mh 7ft bps cranking stick med 7ft abu vendetta med 7ft 6 field and stream flipping stick mh **6ft9 mh veritas micro.....replacing/swapping Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted December 29, 2012 Super User Posted December 29, 2012 Yeh it is confusing, couldn't tell you what to do. I have some where around 8 or 9 inshore combos, many kind of overlap each other and I could easily whittle that down to 2 or 3. Just keeping them all with good line is an expense I really don't need. That said I'm thinking of buying a new one, lol. Quote

tstone Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 I have a few of the 7' 6" MH Veritas. I have used them for up to 1 oz flipping and they work great. In my opinion, anything over 1 oz you should step up to the 7' 11" H, which is what I use for punching with a 1 to 1.5 oz. They're a versatile rod. I have one set up for toads, one for soft swimbaits, and one for flipping. 1 Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted December 29, 2012 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted December 29, 2012 When in doubt, always go bigger. You can finesse a fish (if necessary) on a 7-11 flippin stick. I have the VRC 711-7 and 76-7, both great rods. Quote
Diggy Posted December 31, 2012 Author Posted December 31, 2012 I went with the 7'11 flipping rod for heavier baits, thanks for the help. Quote
