For those of you that have used this rod, what is the heaviest jig you have used on it? When I hold it I do not get the overwhelming sense it has the power to drive a thick jig hook effectively past the weed gaurd and into the bass's jaws.

Do not be fooled I use 3/8-1/2 and it has no problem locking up. But if you are that concerned you may want to go to a 844.

I have that exact rod. Believe me, you will have no problem with hookset, regardless of hook thickness.

Thanks for the replies guys. Helps with my confidence issue with this rod when I hear others successes with it.

Anything over a 1/2 doesnt work all that great. Especially the farther casts or deeper the water. I fished one of those rods for years. At that time the jig I threw 99% of the time was a 3/8 finesse jig on that rod. It was a perfect match.

I think the MBR844C is a better all-around jig rod.
