Super User MCS Posted December 27, 2012 Super User Posted December 27, 2012 http://jacksonville....tail-escalation 14 acres fishing lake, sweet!.....Far enough away, I think it won't hurt local retailers like StrikeZone, love that little shop but it doesn't have everything lol. Hope the deal goes through. Quote
endless Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Nice and here's to hope!! I love are BassPro but I do spend more time in local bait shops. Do you know if getting the one with Fish Company restaurant? It is a very good restaurant with the right cooks cooking of course. Quote
Super User MCS Posted December 27, 2012 Author Super User Posted December 27, 2012 Don't know if it has the resturant or not. It would be cool if it did though, It is supposed to be right accross the county line from me and would be literally 5 minutes away. I agree, the small production/specialty bait companies, local experienced personel of the small shop here is what I like, but it will be nice to have one for the stuff they don't stock like certain fishing line, lure selection and wide array of rods and reels. I am not a fan of Academy, Dicks, or Gander, they seem limited on products/affiliation and color selection. Quote

A number of times I left BPS empty. Just last visit they didnt have Yo-Zuri,Tatsu,SK jig in blue craw, Rage Tail wetermelon meat, Bama Bug senko, BPS micro elite reel. Other times didnt have 4 rods I wanted or certain reels. But still would want one closer to go more often 2 Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 27, 2012 Super User Posted December 27, 2012 BPS carriers lots of brands but limited products from each manufacturer. You need the local tackle shops to obtain the items BPS does not carry. Green Top is flourshing three miles from BPS in the Richmond area. If BPS does not have it Green Top probably does. Quote

I much prefer a small tackle shop because I'm and and out in minutes, even if the item is a little bit more expensive I've saved 90 minutes drive time, wear and tear on my car, gas, and more time at BPS than I really want to spend, the price may be cheaper, but I've spent less money and time the local store. Simple philosophy regarding baits, if they don't have I don't need it, I'll use something else. Quote

Right for the most part I use bps more for the common stuff like line, rods and reels, hooks, sinkers/weights the bps brand stuff without paying shipping. most the smaller shops around here are geared to salt water fishing not bass. 1 Quote
Super User MCS Posted December 28, 2012 Author Super User Posted December 28, 2012 They're building one in Tampa too. nice, man they are putting them all over the place Quote
FloridaBassDude Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Sorry if this seems off topic, but has anyone ever taken notice to the health of the fish in the BPS fish thanks? I visited the Savannah GA BPS last weekend, and there was a LARGE amount of sick looking fish. Pale/Yellow colored, red sores around the mouths, extremely skinny. Talked to some employees, found out the tank was taken care of by a man whom owns a local fish farm, kind of weird someone who takes care of fish for a living has a tank full of sick/possibly dying fish. They said it's one of those aquarium diseases a lot of fish get". It's pretty sad knowing that 12 pound monster bass in there might not be living next month. Anyone else noticed this or have any opinions? Thanks guys. Quote
Broke bass fisherman Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Grew up in Springfield. Never saw any problems with the fish in their tanks, might just be a Savannah thing. I remember staring at those fish as a kid hoping and wishing to get one of those monsters in the wild. Quote
