Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted December 26, 2012 Super User Posted December 26, 2012 Firstly, merry Christmas to eveyone! Secondly, since (among other things) its a day for giving and recieving gifts, what'd you guys get? Anything good? Also did you give any gifts to anyone that were particularly good/special? I got: A pair of Berkley Fish Grip Gloves A plastic fish cleaning board with a metal girpper thing that holds the fish in place 2 6-packs of Southbend Inline Spinners for trout (not the best brand but they still catch fish and they're cheap if I lose them) A really nice sweatshirt with a picture of a bass hitting a spinnerbait New underwear (desperately needed) New sweatpants for sitting around the house (my girlfriend calls them my fat pants) A $25 Bass Pro giftcard Lots of candy I got my girlfriend a lot of stuff she asked for but her favorite present I got for her was a surprise. A handmade scarf made from alpaca wool. Its really really soft and she loved the color. Super User slonezp Posted December 26, 2012 Super User Posted December 26, 2012 The only present I look forward to every year is a fishing calendar from my step daughter. She has gotten me one for the last 17 years. Guy Pattersons "Gone Fishing" is the one I got this year. Santa got me a bunch of stuff from TW. My grab bag gift that I picked was a bottle of Makers Mark. I ate good and spent time with family and that's the best gift of all. Quote

We don't celebrate xmas and no longer exchange gifts for Chanukah but all the grandchildren get gifts from us for the holiday each one celebrates. Every year and this one being no exception my wife buys a couple of dozen gifts for needy children and drops them off at a local toy bank all gift wrapped by her. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted December 26, 2012 Super User Posted December 26, 2012 I got a new ultralight rod, and a gift certificate from BPS. Wife and I also got new smart phones. Our old ones were over 5 years old, and starting to get run down. Quote
Topwaterspook Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 We need to be truly thankful for all our blessings. There have been so many negative things happening to friends and neighbors around us. Our hearts go out to all of them. In my case, all my children and grandchildren were here with us. That indeed is reason enough to celebrate. Apparently the most appreciated gift I gave this year was a custom made baseball bat. It had my grandson's name and his number laser etched in it. He seemed quite happy with that. I hope all of you have recieved something you're thankful for. Quote

Every year and this one being no exception my wife buys a couple of dozen gifts for needy children and drops them off at a local toy bank all gift wrapped by her. Always good to give to charity. Especially this time of year. My girlfriend works at Kmart and found 2 paper tags that were for some sort of toy drive. They said to attach them to a toy and drop the toy off at this church. She didn't want someones kids to have to go without so she bought a couple of toys herself and took them to the church. Plus we always give money to the salvation army. You know. Those guys outside of Walmart ringing their bells. I read an article about a guy in New York who was dressing up like Santa and going around giving out gifts to kids whose homes were devastated by Sandy. Many of those children lost a lot more than just thier toys and this guys going above and beyond to make their holiday a little happier. I got a new ultralight rod, and a gift certificate from BPS. Wife and I also got new smart phones. Our old ones were over 5 years old, and starting to get run down. I need to get myself a smart phone. My current phone makes calls and sends texts. I can take pics too but can't send picture messages. We need to be truly thankful for all our blessings. There have been so many negative things happening to friends and neighbors around us. Our hearts go out to all of them. Very true. We should be thankful for everything in our lives. There are many people out there that don't have a roof over there heads or anything to eat. Its easy to take things like these for granted when you become so used to them. Sorry if my original post came across as shallow or greedy. When it comes to Christmas Im like a big kid. Quote
endless Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 This year me and the wife couldn't do for each other. We only did for the kids. My 5 year old son got some good gifts. We got him a Crosman BB gun with a scope. A nano car set. some movies. He got the new Skylanders Giants game from his Meemaw and Pop Pop. My newborn got a few baby toys though he is still to young. He is just over 2 months. We did get some neat gifts from her brother that they got off Pinterest. Hopefully me and the wife will do something for each other during tax times. Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 28, 2012 Super User Posted December 28, 2012 Endless, you all have two healthy and cute boys. They are a gift from heaven. You and your wife should are thankful for the kids and they are certanily gifts in themselves. Let's make 2013 a good year for you and your family. I hope you can secure a stable career and catch a few lunkers. Start looking for some stable careers in your area and I think you will be surprised at what is out there. Send your resumes and visit with the bigger companies like Hilldrup. Check out GICO. Contact Capitol One. Altria south of Richmond. The new hospital in Fredericksburg. Don't limit yourself to your current skills. See what is out there and what you can do. You would be a valuable asset to any company. All the best for the New Year! Quote
