Hey guys, I know this is a stupid question, but i'm soon getting a new reel (Revo S) in the mail, and I just wanted to know what is the percentage that something is wrong with it? I know it's stupid, but I HATE sending stuff back.

Also, on one of my cheaper reels, there is a small, short grind every revolution of the reel. How do I fix this?

I'd say the percentages are pretty slim that you'll have a defective reel out of the box.

13.3%, calculated using a secret formula that is 100% accurate, assuming you wind up with driver like Doug Heffernan........lol

Sorry, I had to do that. It's so close to Christmas, I am just giddy with joy.

Merry Christmas everybody,

You sure? Also, how to spool line evenly?

Impossible to diagnose

I can't be 100% sure you'll get a non-defective reel out of the box. But it's very reasonable to assume that a Revo S will be fine out of the box.

I use a "Reel E Good" spool winder to spool my reels, there's a lot of spool winders out there, and there's methods to use without using a spool winder. Do a search on "Spooling line on a baitcaster" or some similar phrase and I'm sure you'll find some instructional videos out there.

Slim to none. Unfortunately that's not something you can control. I bet they wouldn't be selling a product that is defective 50% of the time or something like that though.

When putting new line on the reel I like to run it through a couple of phone books to keep tension on the line.

I'd say with any reel in any price range it would be less than 2% chance it would be defective out of the box. I have yet to get a reel that was defective out of the box, however, I've had reels that would encounter problems a week or two into its use but those were mainly cheaper reels under $60 and about 10 years ago. Nowadays I'd don't even think of it especially with a reel $100 and up.
